  • Gas Detection Solutions for GHG Monitoring

    Most sources of fugitive emissions are from multiple points rather than single point sources. So, open path area or perimeter monitoring provides more meaningful fugitive emissions data than an array of point sensors or a program of grab sampling. Point measurements may underestimate emissions because of missing locations with high gas concentrations, or conversely overestimate because they are located in areas of high concentrations. Grab sampling programs typically check only a small percentage of potential leak locations and extrapolate results to an entire facility. Wide margins of uncertainty are associated with such extrapolations. Open path monitoring provides continuously updated, real-time, integrated emissions across a facility boundary.This provides a complete picture of the fugitive emissions across that boundary,enabling identification of specific operations and times that give rise to higher emissions, and so enabling these emissions to be properly managed and controlled.

  • Airport Environmental Monitoring

    Water pollution from airport run-off is increasingly coming under public and government scrutiny. As environmental regulations tighten, the ability to monitor for aviation fuel contamination from runway run-off has become essential.

    Monitoring sites at airports can be extremely challenging often with no power or telephone lines available and with limited access for maintenance. Chelsea’s robust UviLux Hydrocarbon Sensor with its low power consumption and high accuracy is ideally suited for this application. Installed at various locations around the airport, deployed with it’s own integrated anti-biofouling system, utilising the GSM network, the monitoring sites send data to a secure ftp site, where any internet enabled device can access the data.     A general understanding of the separate and combined effects of several weather elements on fire behavior is needed to plan and execute a good prescribed burn. Because weather and fuel factors interact, an experienced prescribed burner can conduct a successful burn even with one or more factors slightly outside the desired range—as long as they are offset by other factors. Accurate fire weather monitoring of fire danger indices via the RAWS network, providing historical data leading up to a prescribed burn is critical in the planning stages. However, having accurate weather conditions in a micro-climate scale in real time during the execution of a prescribed burn is just as critical. The weather variables most applicable to prescription burns are air temperature, relative humidity, wind direction, wind speed and precipitation. A combination of wind speed, relative humidity, temperature, and solar insulation largely determines fuel condition which in turn affects fire behavior.
