  • Smoke generator devices for lev testing, spray booth clearance testing & air testing

For many years, materials containing isocyanate have been the single biggest cause of occupational asthma in the UK. Vehicle paint sprayers are 80 times more likely to develop occupational asthma than workers in other industries. This is caused by the inhalation of the fine paint mist that is generated when paint spraying. There is a requirement for the measurement and display of `clearance times` for spray booths / rooms set by the HSE and the Motor Vehicle Repair (MVR) to meet the requirements of Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH).

  • Smoke generator device for smoke detector testing

Concept smoke systems are used throughout the world for testing smoke detectors of all types. And by smoke detector manufacturers in their own testing facilities. Concept also supply specialist equipment for testing smoke detectors in commercial aircraft, with users including Boeing, Meggitt, Alcoa, Apache, Dassault Falcon and IAI.

  • Smoke generator device for large scale external exercises and tunnel testing

Making smoke in a very open environment or external environment can be a challenging! An oil-based smoke generator, such as a ViCount system, can produce dramatically more artificial smoke than multiple water based systems. This is due to the fact that the smoke ViCounts produce, being oil-based, does not evaporate in the same way and speed that water-based smoke does. The smoke from a ViCount smoke generator will travel for 1000`s of meters, compared to a typical water based smoke machine that may produce a smoke visible for 100 meters. Just one ViCount or Vulcan can replace 10 or more conventional water based smoke systems. ViCount`s have been used world wide for many tunnel smoke simulations, be it for RTA training / evacuation exercises or tunnel ventilation testing.

  • Smoke generator device for PPV & impulse ventilation testing

When water-based artificial smoke is introduced into a rapidly moving air stream, the particles that make up the artificial smoke evaporate much more quickly than they do in a static environment. So if you are looking to produce an artificial smoke that better represents the smoke created by a real fire, we would always recommend the ViCount smoke generator, the smoke from which is virtually unaffected by fast moving air streams. Used world wide PPV training centre`s and to test impulse ventilation systems. A Home Office report into PPV (Positive pressure Ventilation) by the Head of the Fire Experimental Unit, Fire Research & Development concluded that the concept behind the technique of PPV was relatively easy to understand and the equipment simple to operate, but stressed the need for extensive training.

  • Airport Environmental Monitoring

Water pollution from airport run-off is increasingly coming under public and government scrutiny. As environmental regulations tighten, the ability to monitor for aviation fuel contamination from runway run-off has become essential.

Monitoring sites at airports can be extremely challenging often with no power or telephone lines available and with limited access for maintenance. Chelsea’s robust UviLux Hydrocarbon Sensor with its low power consumption and high accuracy is ideally suited for this application. Installed at various locations around the airport, deployed with it’s own integrated anti-biofouling system, utilising the GSM network, the monitoring sites send data to a secure ftp site, where any internet enabled device can access the data. In this way the systems act as any early warning system allowing any hydrocarbon discharge to be detected in real-time.

Optional environmental monitoring features include remote control to allow the user to turn equipment on and off, change the sample rate and detection range. There is also a facility to allow SMS text and email alarm notifications triggered by user-defined set-points together with customised web pages, data displays and automated data downloads via an ftp server.

Airport runoff can contain high concentrations of various pollutants, in particular polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), the environmental levels of which have to be monitored. An understanding of the magnitude of contamination due to airport runoff water is important for the effective management of airport infrastructure. Chelsea’s robust UviLux Hydrocarbon Sensor with its low power consumption and high accuracy is ideally suited to the airport environment.

    Radiation Monitoring for Environmental Monitoring

The environment is one of today’s foremost concerns, and its preservation is among the biggest challenges we need to meet in coming years. Saphymo offers a series of global solutions designed to detect the impact of a nuclear accident on the environment and local populations, and hence facilitate crisis management. Our environmental monitoring networks and mobile devices continuously monitor artificial and natural radiation levels in air, water and soil, and provide data transmission to a central supervision station. These solutions are internationally acclaimed for their autonomy, reliability, and ability to resist harsh environmental conditions.

  • Fugitive emissions monitoring on industrial sites

The real-time monitoring of odorous gases or more classical pollutants emitted by industrial sites (wastewater treatment plants, refineries, landfills, etc.) appears nowadays as a requirement, in order to optimize the site process and operations, or communicate towards the neighborhoods and local public bodies. While emissions can be measured directly at the source (in the stack, exhaust, etc.), ambient air measurement all around the sites provides a better accuracy and anticipate pollution episodes. This is why Cairpol developed around its Cairsens sensors a concept of smart and autonomous stations: Cairnet. Without any maintenance nor calibration, Cairnet is a completely autonomous system energy-wised, with user friendly and efficient interface, accessible from any internet-connected device.

Thin-film Measurement Technology for Medical Industry

The medical industry requires the accurate and consistent performance of its equipment. IST’s precise and reliable sensors meet the needs of these applications. Flow is perhaps the most widely used sensor in this industry, controlling medical devices where a gas or fluid is being supplied to a patient, or in cases of patient monitoring. Humidity sensors also have an application in the medical industry in products that control the air present or supplied to the patient.

Medical solutions for the ventilators and respiratory

A variety of medical devices, such as ventilators, breath analysis equipment and anesthesia delivery monitors require a quick and precise measurement of gas flow. Besides hospital applications, there is an increasing demand for gas flow control in home healthcare products, such as Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) machines. Axetris mass flow meters and controllers are available for use with multiple gases such as O2, Air, He and CO2. The MEMS-based design of our mass flow devices offers key advantages such as quick response and high accuracy.
