air testing laboratory Applications

  • Air monitoring for laboratories

Many of the air quality analyses can be performed with standard laboratory consumables, such as traditional filter papers. However, some analyses require materials with specific features, for example filters with low metal levels.

    Common air monitoring applications include:

    • Air quality testing of ambient environment and emissions. Includes particulate monitoring methods such as PM2.5 and PM10, and chemical analysis such as heavy metals determination.
    • Asbestos sampling and analysis

    Laboratory Weighing - Filter Weighing

Traffic means mobility and air emissions. Thanks to economical advantages, diesel engine becomes more and more popular, but particle emission is strictly restricted by regulations. Determining the weight of particulate matter (PM) is a key task in the automotive industry and one which is likely to become even more important as emissions standards become stricter. To allow fast and easy measurement of particulate matter at any time, METTLER TOLEDO has developed new filter weighing solutions.

Gas analysis & monitoring system for semiconductor

The Cleanroom is a combined laboratory chemical, mechanical and / or electronic whose main characteristic is the presence of very pure air, that is a very low content of fine dust in suspension. In the process of semiconductor production, the airborne particles (micro-powder) go to irreparably damage the micro-photoetched that form the chip, creating an electronic circuit defective, and then discarded. This process has forced the improvement of industrial production environments, removing particles from the air, for two purposes: to increase the efficiency of production, increasing the yield of quality, and requirement of the manufacturer (of course based on the demand of the market) in shrink increasing the area of etching of semiconductors (just think of the USB storage media in a few years, went from 16 MB to 16 GB without changing the external dimensions).

Gas monitoring instruments and systems for stack testing

Several EU directives and national laws in European countries set requirements for continuous monitoring of flue gas emissions at power plants. Further requirements are set on the quality assurance of the installed measurement systems at the plants. The relevant standard in this regard is EN 14181:2004, the quality assurance of automated measuring systems. The standard dictates how to determine that the measurement systems installed for continuous emissions monitoring at a plant operate according to the directives and regulations set. Two major parts of this on-going quality assurance cycle are the QAL2 and AST procedures. A test laboratory performs tests on the systems on-site, and determines whether the systems fulfill the set requirements or not.

Testing Fume Hood Flow Dynamics using SF6 as a Tracer Gas

A safe laboratory environment requires an effective method for clearing toxic material from fume hoods. Since all handling of toxic materials is completed in these hoods, it is critical to have a procedure to evaluate their operation to assure adequate protection for laboratory workers. The InfraRan Specific Vapor Analyzer, factory calibrated for SF6, is an ideal instrument for measuring fume hood efficiency in accordance with ASHRAE and other standards. Manufacturers identify the flow dynamics (factors that affect air flow in the hood and performance with air) using the ratings AM (as manufactured), AI (as installed), and AU (as used). A fume hood evaluation conducted under its operational environment is critical, as these tests will indicate any installation shortcomings as well as direct workers in proper laboratory hood techniques.

Low concentrations monitoring of benzene and aromatic hydrocarbons (BTEX) for pollution control and environmental monitoring

With over 15 years of experience in the measurement of volatile organic compounds (VOC), Environment SA announces the VOC72M, a new generation analyzer for the measurement of BTEX compounds by gas chromatography with photo-ionization detector (PID). The VOC72M can handle up to 40 compounds and eight configurations for analysis. This compact and fully automated analyzer with wide voltage range specifications (90-240V) provides equivalent performance to the laboratory chromatographs and is particularly suited to fixe or mobile ambient air quality monitoring laboratories. The VOC72M is fitted with a PID detector new generation, much more sensitive, more stable and whose lamp does not need to be cleaned; the analyzer integrates flow control fittings a 3 levels security system built on and uses only one gas (nitrogen). This robust and low maintenance instrument performs all the functions (sampling, analysis and data management) in a simple and completely autonomous mode. It is a particular

Gas monitoring instruments and systems for flavoring agents

Manufacturing of powdered and liquid flavorings and fragrances involves production phases where flavoring chemicals may be released into the ambient air breathed by workers. Exposure control by gas analyzers in the production rooms and laboratories is necessary to ensure that the Time-Weighted Average (TWA) concentrations do not exceed the maximum Permissible Emission Limit (PEL) values.
