Reliable Shredding Technology for Refuse Derived Fuels (RDF)

by UNTHA Shredding Technology     based in Kuchl, AUSTRIA

Our shredding solutions enable you to optimally recycle waste into substitute fuels / alternative fuels and ensure high quality by producing a homogeneous granulate free of foreign objects. The goal of recycling is to use the valuable energy contained in the waste and to substitute the use of fossil fuels. During the recycling process the portions with a high calorific value are separated from the commercial and industrial waste and turned into a marketable product. Depending on the calorific value and the granular size, these fuels are used in fluidised bed combustion, cement plants and substitute fuel power plants.

Measurement solution for hydrogen fuel cell testing

by Protea Limited     based in Middlewich, UNITED KINGDOM

As the alternatives to fossil fuels for power generation and automotive power become more widespread and preferred, so has increased the research and testing of hydrogen gas in fuel cells. The hydrogen (H2) gas used in fuel cell has to be free of impurities in order to make the fuel cell as efficient as possible and so quality thresholds have been set in legislation. Such legislation as SAE J2719 provides hydrogen fuel quality standards for proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cell vehicles. If impurities above these thresholds are present in the H2 fuel then there is a risk of not only making the cell inefficient, but also unrecoverable back to its peak operating voltage as the fuel cell electrode becomes poisoned.

Cetane Number of Diesel Fuels #3010

by Guided Wave Inc,     based in Rancho Cordova, CALIFORNIA (USA)

The Cetane number of a diesel fuel is a measure of the ignition properties and is an important specification that must be met during fuel production. The traditional laboratory method for Cetane number determination is the knock engine method in which the fuel is burned and its combustion characteristics compared to known standards. This method is time and labor intensive, and provides no ability for real time control of production. This note discusses the use of Guided Wave hardware and software tools for the measurement of Cetane number in diesel fuel using fiber optic-based, Near-Infrared (NIR) spectroscopy. NIR is applied in real-time directly in process monitoring or as a laboratory procedure. In either case NIR is a time and money saving alternative to traditional methods.

Industrial briquette presses for Biomass briquetting

by WEIMA     based in Ilsfeld, GERMANY

Harness the energy that’s inside your biomass! For too long, human and naturally produced substances have been disregarded. Straw, hay, tobacco, nutshells, miscanthus, pulse parings, cotton and flax are valuable resources for heat energy generation. The briquette shape makes your waste more cost effective to transport and ready in a saleable format. The calorific value of highly compressed briquettes is much greater than of lose material also optimising the combustibility characteristics. Additionally, explosive dust can be handled more safely. Efficient re-utilization of biomass as a cheap alternative fuel source cannot be ignored, particularly in the production of agricultural foods.

Percent Aromatics in Gasoline #3008

by Guided Wave Inc,     based in Rancho Cordova, CALIFORNIA (USA)

The aromatic content of gasoline determines many of its combustion properties. Since it also impacts the environmental characteristics of the fuel it is desirable to have accurate measurements of this parameter. The traditional analytical method for measuring aromatics is either gas chromatography (GC) or an older method entitled fluorescent indicator adsorption (FIA), both of which are time and labor intensive. This note will discuss the use of Guided Wave hardware and software tools for the measurement of % aromatics in fuel products using fiber optic-based, Near-Infrared (NIR) spectroscopy. NIR can be applied in real time directly in process monitoring or as a laboratory procedure. In either case NIR is a time and money saving alternative to traditional methods.
