Chemical Water Treatment for boiler water & heating systems

In nearly all industrial areas steam is needed for different aims e.g. steam for process side, heating purpose or the generation of electricity. To reach the best efficiency of the boiler system an optimal boiler water treatment is essential. Disturbances in boilers caused by deposits, scaling, corrosion, local overheating or carryover into the steam reduce the operating safety and could lead to tremendous economic damages. Kurita delivers innovative technologies to prevent scale and corrosion in the whole boiler system - feed water tank, boiler, steam and condensate system.

  • Measurement and control systems for the Boiler water monitoring

In ongoing operation, the substances suspended in the boiler water are concentrated. In order to avoid the negative consequences (foaming, deposits) of excessive salt content in the boiler water, specified limit values must not be exceeded. With the aid of a desalination control valve, boiler water with concentrated content is constantly removed and replaced with clean water. If the limit values are exceeded, the conductivity limitation ensures prompt switching off of the burner(s). Foreign substances that have sunk to the bottom of the boiler are removed by briefly opening a drainage valve.

    Process water treatment

Process water covers the wide range of boiler feed water, cooling water for heat exchangers or engine, chemicals dilution, etc. It should typically have a conductivity ranging from 0,1 to 50 uS/cm, with little to no hardness to avoid scaling in heating system. Oxygen and carbon dioxide should be removed to prevent corrosion. Depending on your application, the water quality requirements can vary: Boiler feed water characteristic. Cooling water quality. Tap water or fresh groundwater are the most widely used source of water to produce process water.

  • Aquatech Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR)

In a Steamflood Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) process, steam is injected in the well, lowering the viscosity of heavy oil suitable for extraction through the production wells. The fluid from the wells is a mixture of oil, water and gas and goes through a separation system to separate the three. The separated produced water is heavily contaminated with dissolved solids and hydrocarbons. Aquatech’s Steamflood Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) Technology offers the integrated solutions for the treatment EOR produced water for boilers, generating a purified product that can be reused for the production and injection of steam. Our turnkey approach to treatment includes coordinating the logistics of wastewater removal off-site and any sludge disposal.

  • REPLACING WATER SOFTENER WITH GREEN SCALEWATCHER WATER CONDITIONER

Roper’s Restaurant, a cowboy themed restaurant in Albuquerque, New Mexico has replaced its water softener with the computerized, electronic, water-conditioner Scalewatcher from Scalewatcher North America. By installing Scalewatcher, the restaurant has avoided paying the $500 quoted for replacement media for its old water softener and also saved hundreds of dollars a year in salt and water thereby providing Roper’s with a short-term payback on the unit. Roper’s Restaurant, part of Outwest Eateries LLC dba, is located in a hard water area. This necessitated Bryce Chant, owner of Roper’s Restaurant using a water softener to prevent scale formation in the kitchen. “When I was given the price to repair our old water softener, I decided to install the Scalewatcher from Advance Plumbing”, said Bryce Chant of Roper’s Restaurant. We have had great success with it. Even though we had a water softener we still had hard water scale and a white ‘film’ in the dishwasher. Now with Scalewatcher that scale and ‘film’ has disappeared.” The average restaurant consumes 5,800 gallons of water daily, with 50% being used in the kitchen. If not properly treated, hard water can drain a restaurant’s bottom line due to the early renewal of capital equipment such as water heaters, boilers, coffee makers, dishwashers, steamers and other water-fed equipment. Hard water contains calcium carbonate that adheres to heating elements and the internal surfaces causing scale buildup that impairs efficiency. The limescale that deposits on the heating element will, if untreated, reduces efficiency, induces corrosion of the element and ultimately lead to appliance failure. In addition in restaurants, hard water also necessitates the use of additional detergents. In fact, for every additional grain of hard water, detergent use increases by between 2% and 4% per 1,000 gallons of water used. Many restaurants, like Roper’s use a water softener to reduce limescale. However, water softeners use copious amounts of both water and salt, which are expensive to buy and salt is also bulky to store. In addition, in many States now, including Southern California, municipalities and water departments are severely limiting, and in some cases prohibiting, the use of salt-regenerating water softeners due to concern regarding the increased levels of salt in ground water. The award-winning Scalewatcher system not only helps restaurants meet these regulations by minimizing salt usage but also saves money on salt purchase and has the additional benefit of removing scale from water-fed equipment. The environmentally friendly Scalewatcher provides a permanent solution to hard water problems without the need of chemicals, salt or maintenance. It works by producing a varying electronically applied force field, induced by a coil wrapped around the outside of the pipework, which keeps the minerals in suspension and thus prevents limescale forming. The water’s increased solubility enables it to dissolve existing scale, which is gradually washed away. “We are saving money each month because we do not have to purchase salt for the water softener and we are not dumping salt filled water down the drain because there is no brine process with Scalewatcher”, said Bryce Chant. “Living in New Mexico with our drought situation, I hated knowing all that water was being wasted. Scalewatcher is a truly ‘green’ technology that we are happy we have implemented”. Roper’s Restaurant has been so impressed with the Scalewatcher technology that the managers have bought units for their homes and have recommended it to family and friends. Scalewatcher models are based on continuous research and over 20 years experience and expertise as market leaders in electronic scale control with countless units sold worldwide. The patented Scalewatcher systems start at $248.00 USD and are capable of treating pipe sizes from one to 120 inches. All Scalewatcher systems come with a full performance guarantee and include free shipping throughout North America.

  • Innovative Pump Technology for Ship Industry

In shipbuilding, high standards of reliability as well as increasingly the energy efficiency of the systems are important prerequisites for the economical-technical overall evaluation in the technical procurement process. Ships as self-sufficient systems are particularly dependent on the reliable functioning of all installed components, including the pumps. They fulfil many tasks on board which are vital for the operation of the vessel: Delivery of ballast water and wastewater, boiler supply, condensate recovery, drive engine cooling and of course the reliable supply of fire fighting systems.

  • Measurement and control systems for the controlling the level - electronically

Discontinuous control is used mainly in smaller steam boilers with low output since the temperature fluctuations in the boiler are fairly great as a result of irregular refilling with water. Continuous control, on the other hand, permits still more economical steam generation with high quality.

  • Membrane filtration systems for reduction of BOD/COD

Reverse Osmosis Polishers can concentrate BOD/COD from evaporator condensate and RO permeate streams to reduce waste water. Polished water can also be re-used in plant for boiler water make-up and CIP systems. In Dairy Industry applications, `polishing` of these process water streams aids in the production of Class I water for re-use from dairy products as defined and regulated under Food & Drug Administration rules. Water produced with this technique is also very soft, generally resulting in lower cleaning chemical consumption.

  • Measurement and control systems for the Indicating the level - mechanically

Depending on the regulations, a steam boiler must be equipped with one or more direct and/ or indirect level gauges. With direct level gauges, the liquid level can be seen directly through a glass or mica window. The use of a transparent level gauge with background illumination gives operating staff a clear separation between the water and steam zones even when viewed at a relatively long distance. Bicolour level gauges (black and white or green and red) are very suitable for camera transmission to the measuring station because of their special design and the intense LED illumination. With indirect level gauges, the water level is transmitted by a magnetic system to a display panel on the outside of a pipe.
