burner Applications

  • Emissions testing for industrial boilers and burners

Industrial boilers and burners have their own unique characteristics. When an unexpectedly high CO is detected, the Testo 350 will automatically adjust to the situation, keeping the sensor protected at all times. Don`t worry about climbing and removing the probe from the stack, just hit the fresh air button. The measurements of O2, CO, NO and SO2, combined with automatic calculations (CO2, efficiency, excess air), provide fast tuning solutions. The 350`s compact design is better for working on a platform or small space. The automatic zero pressure measurement is ideal to monitor flow or draft induction. With a pitot tube you can quickly measure velocity and determine mass flow even during long term testing. The Testo 350 makes reporting in lbs/hour easy!

  • Premium

Very large waste gas volumes with low contaminant concentration

The CTP desorption allows for an especially high concentration factor which, in turn, reduces the cost of ownership and permits an auto-thermal operation (additional burner switched off) even when the contaminant concentration is low.

  • Premium

Several waste gas streams: Short, high concentration peaks and a constant |medium concentration

Concentration peaks and liquid waste posed a tough challenge on the air pollution control system. With the CTP solution, this waste is not only disposed of but also reduces the burner energy considerably.

  • Alternative Fuel Production

Superior Boiler Works, Inc. led the way in Ethanol production in the USA with more installed firetube boilers in Ethanol plants than any other manufacturer. Ethanol requires the distillation of sugars into an alcohol fuel. Superior’s products are used to generate heat needed for the ethanol distillation processes, heating storage tanks as well as batch reactors. Additionally, Superior Boilers can be fitted with packaged burners which fire a variety of fuels from tallow to syngas to Hydrogen and most anything in between.

  • Biogas for Cooking

This solution comprises a Biogas Digester of desired capacity working with specific substrate as input. It may or may not have H2S scrubbing system, depending on the quantity of H2S in the biogas and the requirement by the customer for cleaning it. As the heating value of biogas is almost half that of cooking LPG, specially designed biogas burners are provided to improve cooking speed. Depending on the demand by the customer, a blower to increase gas pressure may be employed.

  • Measurement and control systems for the Boiler water monitoring

In ongoing operation, the substances suspended in the boiler water are concentrated. In order to avoid the negative consequences (foaming, deposits) of excessive salt content in the boiler water, specified limit values must not be exceeded. With the aid of a desalination control valve, boiler water with concentrated content is constantly removed and replaced with clean water. If the limit values are exceeded, the conductivity limitation ensures prompt switching off of the burner(s). Foreign substances that have sunk to the bottom of the boiler are removed by briefly opening a drainage valve.

  • Prescribed Burning

A general understanding of the separate and combined effects of several weather elements on fire behavior is needed to plan and execute a good prescribed burn. Because weather and fuel factors interact, an experienced prescribed burner can conduct a successful burn even with one or more factors slightly outside the desired range—as long as they are offset by other factors. Accurate fire weather monitoring of fire danger indices via the RAWS network, providing historical data leading up to a prescribed burn is critical in the planning stages. However, having accurate weather conditions in a micro-climate scale in real time during the execution of a prescribed burn is just as critical. The weather variables most applicable to prescription burns are air temperature, relative humidity, wind direction, wind speed and precipitation. A combination of wind speed, relative humidity, temperature, and solar insulation largely determines fuel condition which in turn affects fire behavior.

  • Gas detection analyzers for pulp & paper mills

Flammable non-condensible gases (NCG’s) are byproducts of the wood pulping process. Health and pollution regulations prohibit the release of these gases into the atmosphere. They are usually eliminated by passing them through an incinerator or by using them as fuel in the burner of a boiler or kiln. The incinerator, boiler or kiln however can be damaged by NCG’s which have built up explosive levels. Pulp mills require the use of our PrevEx Flammability Analyzers to monitor the NCG stream and detect and divert these dangerous concentrations before they can cause damage and shut down the mill. The PrevEx analyzers accurately measure the total concentration of flammable gases present in the NCG sample. Their high sampling speed dramatically improves response time—an important factor in pulp mill applications.

  • Secundary air flow measurement for power generation industry

Secondary Air Flow Overview: The need for accurate, repeatable & reliable combustion air measurements in power generation plants is critical to efficient operation and safety throughout the entire facility and processes. Accurate secondary air flow measurement to the burners is critical for maintaining the proper air to fuel ratio, resulting in more complete and stable combustion, better performance and lower emissions. Coal-fired power plant applications pose a number of challenges to obtaining these critical flow measurements including large ducts, limited metering runs, poor velocity and temperature profiles, vibration and high temperatures.

  • Automotive Shredder Residue Drying

Getting economic value from landfill waste like automotive shredder residue (ASR) is a big challenge that can have a big payoff. Vulcan® Systems Drying Technology is the key component of material preparation when separating ASR waste to reclaim energy and metals. Vulcan® ASR Dryer Systems are manufactured to suit each client’s individual project needs and custom-designed specifically to dry ASR, making the material easy to transport, separate, and handle. This drying system consists of a drum with a burner that is mounted to a combustion chamber. Shredder residue is fed into the rotary dryer. After passing through the system, the dried material is discharged to a transfer conveyor for further sorting and separation. The vapor from the process is pulled through a cyclone that is specifically designed to deal with the fine ASR dust, as well as a high-temperature baghouse that removes additional fine particulates from the vapor stream.
