Force Main Systems Sulfide Odor Control with Hydrogen Peroxide

by USP Technologies     based in Atlanta, GEORGIA (US) (USA)

Force main systems are typically high sulfide odor generators due to septicity conditions related to full pipe flow and a greater anaerobic slime layer (biofilm) thickness. Primary factors that influence sulfide loading generation in a force main include sewage temperature, BOD, retention time, pipe size and flow. Gaseous hydrogen sulfide (H2S) release at the force main discharge is usually the main concern related to odor and corrosion control needs; however, corrosion problems within the pipe can be of a concern (e.g. "crown cutting") at locations where air pockets can lead to concentrated H2S gas build up. Some basic considerations for assessing an appropriate sulfide odor treatment method for force main systems include: Retention time / duration of control Pump station type / cycling (e.g. vfd; start/stop, etc). Force main injection tap points, if any (e.g. air relief valves) Existence of intermediate re-lift stations or in series pump stations Manifold force main systems

DOCUPAK LLC REDUCES COOLING TOWER CHEMICAL USAGE BY A THIRD

by Scalewatcher North America Inc.     based in Oxford, PENNSYLVANIA (USA)

Docupak LLC, a full service marketing company headquartered in Alabaster, Alabama, has reduced chemical usage by a third and removed all scale from its cooling tower at its plant after installing the patented, award-winning Scalewatcher computerized, electronic water-conditioner from Scalewatcher North America. In addition there are no longer signs of algae growth on the cooling tower louvres. Founded in 1998, Docupak, the operating name of Document and Packaging Brokers Inc., develops and distributes materials for businesses nationwide. In addition to its headquarters in Alabaster, Alabama, the company also operates a further plant in Alexandria, VA and has sales offices in Atlanta, Chicago, Cincinnati, Dallas, Los Angeles, Tampa and Washington, D.C. Aware that health agencies continually draw attention to the risks of limescale and algae in cooling towers and wanting to reduce the use of chemicals in the cooling tower, Plant Manager, Anthony Kinstley decided to install the Scalewatcher electornic water-conditioner through local dealer, Al Chatham of Water Processing and Well Supply in Harpersville, Alabama. An industrial Scalewatcher was installed on to the water-feed line to the building and then a further unit was specifically fitted on to the recirculation line of the cooling tower. “Since using the system the scaling on our cooling tower has been eliminated and we currently use only a third of the original chemicals intended for the water treatment within our system”, said Anthony Kinstley. Many air conditioning and refrigeration plant systems are water-cooled. The heat generated by cooling coils is removed by water, which is passed through a water-cooling tower. These are recirculating systems, which operate at temperatures ideal for bacterial and algae growth, and have plentiful supplies of nutrients. In cooling towers, temperature, water hardness, pH, scale and corrosion are all factors, which increase the chance of biofilms, algae and Legionella colonization. The environmentally friendly Scalewatcher provides a permanent solution to hard water problems without the need of chemicals, salt or maintenance. It works by producing a varying electronically applied force field, induced by a coil wrapped around the outside of the pipework, which keeps the minerals in suspension and thus prevents limescale forming. The water’s increased solubility enables it to dissolve existing scale, which is gradually washed away. “Scalewatcher has proven itself to be highly effective. I would highly recommend this product and service without limitation,” concluded Antony Kinstley. Scalewatcher models are based on continuous research and over 25 years experience and expertise as market leaders in electronic scale control with countless units sold worldwide. The patented Scalewatcher systems are capable of treating pipe sizes from one to 120 inches. All Scalewatcher systems come with a full performance guarantee and are shipped throughout North America.

Gravity Main Sulfide Odor Control with Hydrogen Peroxide

by USP Technologies     based in Atlanta, GEORGIA (US) (USA)

Gravity main sewer systems include major trunk lines and the tributaries that feed them. Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) odor builds up in the collections system as the flows collect from upstream reaches and become larger, deeper and more septic (oxygen depleted) in the downstream reaches more near to the wastewater treatment plant. In general, most of the more significant hydrogen sulfide odor and corrosion control problems occur in the major trunk systems segments conveying flow to the plant. Therefore, selection of sulfide treatment for gravity systems has several options depending mainly on: Duration of control required Degree of septicity (oxygen depletion) Location of target control points or "hot spots" Location of available dosing points upstream of "hot spots" Availability of civil infrastructure and utilities Sensitivity to hazardous chemicals

Industrial

by DESMI A/S     based in Noerresundby, DENMARK

We have a specialist range of skimmers and systems to suit the requirements of the industries, including in-tank skimming. The removal of oil and chemicals from water within the industrial environment is a key requirement – not only due to increased legislation but also because it is considered a dependable and cost effective way to achieve the desired level of water purity. It can also increase the efficiency of existing installations, such as large scale API oil-water or parallel plate separators, without the need for expensive capex expansions or new builds. The DESMI skimmers are typically manufactured from high nickel alloys to resist ‘sour’ applications and can be hydraulic, air or low voltage drive. In applications that require ATEX or equal qualification, we can satisfy this requirement.

In-Situ Groundwater Remediation for the Site Remediation Industry

by NANO IRON s.r.o.     based in Rajhrad, CZECH REPUBLIC

In-situ groundwater remediation method is based on injection of Fe(0) nanoparticles through application wells directly into the contaminated water. nZVI injection is very fast, reaching significantly lower operating costs compared to commonly used remediation methods (expensive construction of reactive barriers, building of pump&treat stations, excavation of contaminated soil etc.). In comparison to other in-situ technologies a far lower quantities of injected chemical is needed due to high efficiency of the product and thus the time and cost of remediation is reduced.

Water treatment for food processing

by Applied Oxidation LLC     based in Chattanooga, TENNESSEE (USA)

Most food processing facilities currently use a combination of different chemicals for all surface and machine disinfection. They periodically rotate the use of different sanitizers to prevent the harmful microorganisms from building a resistance to their killing properties. Unfortunately facilities are still experiencing pathogen outbreaks. Chlorine dioxide’s unique killing ability does not allow for the build up of resistance or mutation, and therefore eliminates the need for all of the other chemicals. Chlorine dioxide is effective for use in controlling microbiological growth in flume waters and other food processing water systems such as chill water systems and hydrocoolers.

High performance separation system for ethylene industry

by Pentair Filtration Solutions, LLC     based in Conroe, TEXAS (USA)

Fundamental building block chemical used in the production chain of polyethylene, PVC, styrene, ethylene glycol, vinyl acetate, linear ∂-olefins and a host of other chemical products. Eliminate hydrocarbons in Quench Water system, minimize fouling, provide greater system reliability, lower maintenance, lower energy costs. Quench water contains emulsified heavy aromatic hydrocarbon (SG = 0.975). Cracked hydrocarbons are extremely reactive. Polymerization leads to fouling of quench system, exchangers, dilution steam generator. Fouling reduces plant profitability and on-stream reliability.

Water treatment for legionella prevention and control

by Applied Oxidation LLC     based in Chattanooga, TENNESSEE (USA)

Whether you find yourself in a hotel bath room, cruise ship cabin, hospital, office building, industrial plant, greenhouse, car wash facility or your own hot tub, the combination of certain temperature levels, stagnant water and the presence of biofilm in water systems is a potential recipe for disaster: an outbreak of Legionnaires’ disease. An outbreak of Legionnaires’ disease is often the result of negligence, having legal repercussions for responsible parties. Because of its chemical and biocidal characteristics, chlorine dioxide is ideal for maintaining good standards of water hygiene. Chlorine dioxide has consistently been demonstrating to be the best molecule for eradicating the causative organism of Legionnaires’ disease.

CONDOMINIUM REPLACES WATER SOFTENER WITH GREEN SCALEWATCHER WATER CONDITIONER

by Scalewatcher North America Inc.     based in Oxford, PENNSYLVANIA (USA)

Angel*Haus Condominium, a condo community in Purgatory’s Durango Mountain Resort, Colorado, has replaced its water softener with the computerized, electronic, water-conditioner Scalewatcher from Scalewatcher North America. By installing Scalewatcher, the condominum has improved the water quality, removed the need to buy and store salt and substantially reduced its water costs. Angelhaus Condominium is a modernised 40 unit building containing individually owned one, two and three bedroom units. Located at the base of the Durango Mountain Resort and less than 200 yards from the base lifts, the units are primarily rented out by their owners for skiing and walking vacations. The managing agents were spending around $100 a month on salt for the condominium’s water softener in addition to a further $200 to $700 for regular maintenance to calibrate the unit. Despite this expenditure, owners regularly complained about the poor water quality. “I would also have to spend time and effort hauling the salt downstairs to where the softener was located and I was also conscious we were flushing water down the drain”, said Sarelyn Saint, Managing Agent at Angel*Haus Condominium. Looking for an alternative solution for Angel*Haus Condominiums’ hard water problem, Sarelyn Saint decided to investigate the Scalewatcher system. After presenting the information to his board it was decided to install a Scalewatcher unit onto the main water line. “We had a board meeting just two months after the system was installed and our board members mentioned that they could tell the difference with the water, particularly the dishes and taste of the water”, concluded Sarelyn Saint. “We no longer have to budget for water treatment but best of all I don’t even have to think about it anymore and neither do the owners”. Condos are often on a shared water or loop system, with the pipes running from one unit to the next or are all fed off of a main valve. In hard water areas, scale quickly builds up in pipes and water fed applicances meaning that the water supply has to be regularly turning off for maintenance. Shutting off the service to one unit often means shutting off the service to all the units for work to be carried out. To alleviate the problems, many condominiums purchase water softeners. However, water softeners use copious amounts of both water and salt, which are expensive to buy and salt is also bulky to store. In addition, in many States now, including Southern California, municipalities and water departments are severely limiting, and in some cases prohibiting, the use of salt-regenerating water softeners due to concern regarding the increased levels of salt in ground water. The award-winning Scalewatcher system not only helps building managers meet these regulations by minimizing salt usage but also saves money on salt purchase and has the additional benefit of removing scale from water-fed equipment. Scalewatcher models are based on continuous research and over 20 years experience and expertise as market leaders in electronic scale control with countless units sold worldwide. The patented Scalewatcher systems start at $248.00 USD and are capable of treating pipe sizes from one to 120 inches. All Scalewatcher systems come with a full performance guarantee and include free shipping throughout North America
