conductivity monitoring Applications

  • Laser detection solutions for environmental monitoring

LDI laser remote sensing technology provides users with the tools to conduct broad and accurate environmental surveys of both water and ground in stressed environmental zones, which makes our products especially suitable for oil spill response operations. The technology is based on the Laser Induced Fluorescence (LIF) and realized by the Fluorescent Lidar Systems – FLS (LiDAR – Light Detection And Ranging).

Measurement and control systems for the Boiler water monitoring

In ongoing operation, the substances suspended in the boiler water are concentrated. In order to avoid the negative consequences (foaming, deposits) of excessive salt content in the boiler water, specified limit values must not be exceeded. With the aid of a desalination control valve, boiler water with concentrated content is constantly removed and replaced with clean water. If the limit values are exceeded, the conductivity limitation ensures prompt switching off of the burner(s). Foreign substances that have sunk to the bottom of the boiler are removed by briefly opening a drainage valve.

  • Wireless multiple parameter monitoring

Monitoring multiple sensing points including fill level, pH, conductivity, and flow—often from varied locations in a large water treatment plant—can be a challenge. With four analogue inputs, a single SureCross Node can easily centralize and transmit critical monitoring information from multiple Sensors or controllers. Banner’s unique power management capability enables a single Node equipped with a FlexPower™ optimized QT50U or T30UX ultrasonic analogue sensor (level detection) to operate for years on a single DX81 battery power supply.

Surface Water Quality Testing for the Environmental Monitoring Industry

Aquaread stock a wide range of testing equipment designed to track a number of parameters and water quality testing measures. These can be used in many different bodies of water, including rivers, lakes, streams and seawater. The advantages of tracking water quality and testing for numerous parameters means that it is easier to notice changes which could cause damage to aquatic ecosystems. Early detection not only helps with monitoring water quality, but also helps to put mitigating measures in place. We have a wide range of parameters, although the most popular of these allow for surface water testing, pH, temperature, electrical conductivity and measuring levels of dissolved oxygen. These are standard measurements included in most standard Aquaprobes, although if you require more specific parameter testing then there are a number of additional parameters which can be added onto to the base Aquaprobe to compensate this.

Water Quality Monitoring for the Groundwater Monitoring Industry

The reasons for testing water quality in groundwater are numerous. Monitoring water quality and conducting tests is a good way to gather data on aquifer hydraulics. It can also be used to monitor parameters such as rhodamine, which helps to understand movement of underground water. Human activities can have an impact on groundwater quality, and conducting tests in this field can help to track these effects. Leachate from landfill and fertiliser can both find their way into groundwater. It is important to monitor these pollutants and to test the quality of groundwater, as it helps to identify and mitigate potentially harmful conditions.

  • Continuous Water Quality Monitoring

The Sorbisense method allows for continuous monitoring of water quality. Measurements can be conducted as screenings of water catchments, warnings in catchments or directly into the supply system. This method makes it possible to identify and map known problems, but also to trace the source of emergent problems.

Analysis of VOC compounds in water by Purge & Trap or dynamic headspace

Context & Challenges Volatile organic compounds (VOC) can be dissolved in water. Sometimes water is polluted and to study contamination of VOC in finished drinking water, VOC must be measured. Chromatotec® Solutions Chromatotec® has developed a specific system for the measurement of VOC in water: a Purge & Trap system, the airmoPURGE. The analyzer is coupled with a degasing system allowing the extraction of dissolved gases. The complete system is based on: - 502.2 method from US EPA – “Volatile organic compounds in water by purge and trap capillary column gas chromatography with photoionization and electrolytic conductivity detectors in series – Revision 2.1”. - 524.2 method from US EPA – “Measurement of purgeable organic compounds in water by capillary column gas chromatography/mass spectrometry – Revision 4.0”.

Testing Fume Hood Flow Dynamics using SF6 as a Tracer Gas

A safe laboratory environment requires an effective method for clearing toxic material from fume hoods. Since all handling of toxic materials is completed in these hoods, it is critical to have a procedure to evaluate their operation to assure adequate protection for laboratory workers. The InfraRan Specific Vapor Analyzer, factory calibrated for SF6, is an ideal instrument for measuring fume hood efficiency in accordance with ASHRAE and other standards. Manufacturers identify the flow dynamics (factors that affect air flow in the hood and performance with air) using the ratings AM (as manufactured), AI (as installed), and AU (as used). A fume hood evaluation conducted under its operational environment is critical, as these tests will indicate any installation shortcomings as well as direct workers in proper laboratory hood techniques.

  • Saran Bag application

Title : Preliminary Sampling Methodology and Analytical Procedures for Ambient Sulfur Hexafluoride, Corporate Author : ARMY MEDICAL ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING RESEARCH UNIT EDGEWOOD ARSENAL MD Personal Author(s) : Luckan,Susan K. ; Cooper,William J. Report Date : JAN 1973 Pagination or Media Count : 23 Abstract : A preliminary evaluation of techniques of sampling and gas chromatographic analysis for low levels of sulfur hexafluoride was conducted to determine the most feasible method for available equipment. Using a Tracor MT-150 gas chromatograph equipped with Nickel 63 electron capture detector and polarized dc voltable, it was possible to detect sulfur hexafluoride at a concentration of 0.06 ppb with a 5A molecular sieve column and nitrogen carrier gas, without preconcentration of the sample. Also, a comparison of glass and Saran sampling materials proved that no detectable loss of the tracer gas resulted with the Saran bags (between 6 ppm and 0.06 ppb SF6

  • Prescribed Burning

A general understanding of the separate and combined effects of several weather elements on fire behavior is needed to plan and execute a good prescribed burn. Because weather and fuel factors interact, an experienced prescribed burner can conduct a successful burn even with one or more factors slightly outside the desired range—as long as they are offset by other factors. Accurate fire weather monitoring of fire danger indices via the RAWS network, providing historical data leading up to a prescribed burn is critical in the planning stages. However, having accurate weather conditions in a micro-climate scale in real time during the execution of a prescribed burn is just as critical. The weather variables most applicable to prescription burns are air temperature, relative humidity, wind direction, wind speed and precipitation. A combination of wind speed, relative humidity, temperature, and solar insulation largely determines fuel condition which in turn affects fire behavior.
