    Oil in Water Analysis for Flowback or Produced Water

    The amount of water used in and produced by hydraulic fracturing of shale gas wells is in the millions of gallons per well. Whether the water is going to be taken off site for disposal or reused for re-injection, the flowback or produced water needs pretreatment to remove any residual oil from the water. Waiting for remote lab results can take several days to a week. InfraCal TOG/TPH Analyzers allow for oil in water testing at the well site in less than 10 minutes. The sampling requires a few simple steps that can be performed by non-technical personnel. The water is mixed with the extraction solvent, shaken, and then presented to the analyze for measurement. The same InfraCal TOG/TPH Analyzer can be used for TPH in soil if a spill or pond leak occurs to determine the contaminated area.   • Complete Bioremediation of site contaminated with Fraction 2 petroluem hydrocarbons

    Delta had been contracted during the 2014 remediation at the well site to apply their bioremediation process to excavated and stockpiled soil contaminated with Fraction 2 petroleum hydrocarbons (F2 PHC). Soil sample results from a 2014 Phase II ESA showed F2 PHC concentrations ranging from 170 mg/kg to 1210 mg/kg, with an average of 586 mg/kg in the four samples from the disposal area. Delta was on the site for around 10 hours using their hopper and amendment sprayer machine to treat the approximately 600 cubic meters of fine–grained contaminated soil. The treated soil was conveyed back into the excavation so the bioremediation process could continue. The client retained Gulo Environmental for sampling of the amended soil piles in May of 2015. Results from the analysis of the samples, taken approximately nine months after the bioremediation process, showed non-detection for F2 PHC, resulting in successful closure of the site.

    Measurement of naphthalene in ambient air to monitor workplace exposure limits & at remediation & Superfund sites

    The Series 8900 Naphthalene Analyzer provides direct measurement of Naphthalene in ambient air. This instrument is utilized in industrial plants to monitor workplace exposure limits and at remediation and Superfund sites. The Series 8900 Naphthalene Analyzer employs a photoionization detector (PID) as the sensing element. A dual column configuration with timed backflush to vent is used to strip off moisture and heavier hydrocarbons. A pre-cut column is used in series with the analytical column. At sample injection a fixed volume of sample is carried to the pre-cut column. Backflush is timed so that only the Naphthalene and other similar components are eluted to the analytical column. Contaminants on the pre-cut column are backflushed to vent. Naphthalene is separated from potentially interfering components on the analytical column and elute to the detector for analysis.
