Gas Detection Solutions for Sour Gas

The sour (H2S) content of hydrocarbon fields worldwide is increasing, and many natural gas fields have very high H2S – sometimes in excess of 50%. H2S is extremely dangerous because, although people can smell it at low levels (about 5 ppb) it does not smell much worse at the exposure limit value of 10 ppm or at potentially fatal levels in excess of 100 ppm. Therefore smell is an unreliable means of determining dangerous levels. Existing H2S point sensors are maintenance intensive, slow to respond and provide limited coverage. Most H2S sensors do not work reliably in hot or cold weather, or in humid marine environments.

  • Gas detection analyzers for pulp & paper mills

Flammable non-condensible gases (NCG’s) are byproducts of the wood pulping process. Health and pollution regulations prohibit the release of these gases into the atmosphere. They are usually eliminated by passing them through an incinerator or by using them as fuel in the burner of a boiler or kiln. The incinerator, boiler or kiln however can be damaged by NCG’s which have built up explosive levels. Pulp mills require the use of our PrevEx Flammability Analyzers to monitor the NCG stream and detect and divert these dangerous concentrations before they can cause damage and shut down the mill. The PrevEx analyzers accurately measure the total concentration of flammable gases present in the NCG sample. Their high sampling speed dramatically improves response time—an important factor in pulp mill applications.

Gas monitoring instruments and systems for phosgene monitoring

Phosgene COCl2 is a colorless gas. While it has been used as a Chemical Weapon Agent (CWA) in the past, currently this poisonous gas is also an important reagent in synthesis in the pharmaceutical and chemical industries. The plants using phosgene are typically equipped with gas sensors to detect leaks in the indoor ambient air. The critical situations arise when equipment in contact with the gas at the manufacturing facilities are serviced and maintained. As phosgene is very poisonous, even small gas pockets in serviced equipment may be dangerous to maintenance personnel. Gasmet™ FTIR Gas Analyzers are ideal tools to monitor point sources of phosgene. The measurement technology has high specificity, may be operated continuously, and has a fast response time.
