extractive gas monitor Applications

  • Moisture Monitoring for Natural Gas & LNG

The presence of moisture in high-pressure natural gas from production wells causes pipelines and associated valves to freeze. High moisture content also leads to the formation of hydrates of the liquid hydrocarbons present, thus causing further difficulties. The moisture content of the gas also adversely affects the calorific value of the gas, thus lowering the quality and value of the product. Moisture is therefore measured at the point of extraction, at export stations, at gas storage locations and in the transmission grid. As natural gas often contains high levels of contaminants, more complex systems are required to maintain instrument performance over prolonged periods and to verify data collected in spot-check moisture analysis.

  • Noise and vibration monitoring for oil and gas industry

The oil and gas industry requires major infrastructure in terms of refineries and offshore extraction platforms which operate continuously. A large number of essential rotating machines, structures and piping networks are subjected to high levels of demand in a difficult environment, leading to the potential for breakage.

    Portable Stack Monitoring

Many industries are required to measure stack emissions of toxic gases periodically, but not continuously. Extractive wet chemical methods currently used are slow, labor intensive and expensive. A single GasFinderFC can perform stack monitoring requirements for a specific gas, quickly, easily and accurately.

  • Total Reduced Sulfur (S) monitoring

Total reduced sulfur(s), which include hydrogen sulfide (H2S), methyl mercaptan (methanethiol, CH3SH), dimethyl sulfide (CH3SCH3), and dimethyl disulfide (CH3S2CH3), occur naturally in the environment and can also be present in numerous industrial gaseous streams – petroleum refining, natural gas extraction, and chemical operations like the pulp/paper industry. Hydrogen sulfide is the most prevalent of the total reduced sulfurs, and is commonly found in volcanic gases, marshes and swamps, wetlands and mud flats, sulfur springs and decaying organic matter. Additionally, hydrogen sulfide is produced by living organisms, including human beings, through the digestion and metabolization of sulfur-containing materials. It must be noted that sulfur dioxide (SO2), sulfur trioxide (SO3) and sulfuric acid mist are not included in the determination of TRS, as these are oxidized sulfur compounds and are permitted and monitored separately from TRS.

  • Air and particule sampling for the oil and gas industries

Ormantine offers a wide range of products and services to meet the array of different needs that arise in the oil and gas industries. Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), benzene, and other compounds are released during drilling, hydraulic fracturing (fracking) and other extraction procedures. Monitor NOx emissions from heavy duty equipment, particulate matter, and ground level ozone, the formation of which is contributed to by VOCs from processing, transportation, and storage of oil and gas.

Continuous emissions monitoring for brick plants

Process control and emissions monitoring in a brick plant is a challenge due to the high concentrations of HF. The HF is generated in the process and gas phase HF can reach 50 mg/m3 or more. To use an extractive system in this environment will demand a lot of maintanence.

Analysis of VOC compounds in water by Purge & Trap or dynamic headspace

Context & Challenges Volatile organic compounds (VOC) can be dissolved in water. Sometimes water is polluted and to study contamination of VOC in finished drinking water, VOC must be measured. Chromatotec® Solutions Chromatotec® has developed a specific system for the measurement of VOC in water: a Purge & Trap system, the airmoPURGE. The analyzer is coupled with a degasing system allowing the extraction of dissolved gases. The complete system is based on: - 502.2 method from US EPA – “Volatile organic compounds in water by purge and trap capillary column gas chromatography with photoionization and electrolytic conductivity detectors in series – Revision 2.1”. - 524.2 method from US EPA – “Measurement of purgeable organic compounds in water by capillary column gas chromatography/mass spectrometry – Revision 4.0”.

High quality gas sensor solutions for mining

Fast, accurate and reliable measurement of CH4. The extraction of coal releases methane gas, which can mix with the air in a mine to form a hazard due to its flammability. Ventilation with fresh air from the surface is used to dilute the methane and reduce the risk of explosion. Monitoring of the methane content of the stale air exiting the mine allows the amount of ventilation to be controlled. Although our sensors are not ATEX approved for use in potentially explosive atmospheres they are suitable for monitoring air containing methane concentrations below the lower explosive limit. Our OEM products can be built into equipment which is approved for use in the monitoring of mine exhaust gas and similar applications.

Oil in Water Analysis for Flowback or Produced Water

The amount of water used in and produced by hydraulic fracturing of shale gas wells is in the millions of gallons per well. Whether the water is going to be taken off site for disposal or reused for re-injection, the flowback or produced water needs pretreatment to remove any residual oil from the water. Waiting for remote lab results can take several days to a week. InfraCal TOG/TPH Analyzers allow for oil in water testing at the well site in less than 10 minutes. The sampling requires a few simple steps that can be performed by non-technical personnel. The water is mixed with the extraction solvent, shaken, and then presented to the analyze for measurement. The same InfraCal TOG/TPH Analyzer can be used for TPH in soil if a spill or pond leak occurs to determine the contaminated area. The analyzer features: -Results in under 15 minutes -Detect levels as low as 10 ppm -Portable, rugged, lightweight, easy-to-use -Battery operable -Ideal for field or lab use

Process Control for the Petrochemical Chemical Industry

Most chemical products as we know today are composed of a few hundreds of basic chemicals, extracted mostly from crude oil and natural gas. Instrumentation, analyzer systems and process optimization are not new to the operation of all chemical and petrochemical processes.

However, tightening regulations, competition pressure and increasing raw materials cost urges the industry to go deeper into process control technology. As a single-source supplier of the (petro)chemical industry since many years, AppliTek has supplied them many analyzer systems for monitoring chemical parameters in all sorts of applications, from the actual production step to peripheral treatment processes. Our application people and engineering department understand your needs and translate them into real solutions.
