groundwater remediation product Applications

  • Groundwater Monitoring for Remediation

Many fresh water sources have been degraded to toxic levels by the inclusion of industrial, agricultural, and human waste products that have been discharged into the closest body of water, accidentally or deliberately for many years.

    Odor control for remediation

Helping others clean up the earth by clearing up brownfield remediation odors. Helping others clean up the earth by clearing up brownfield remediation odors. Brownfield remediation consists of removing large amounts of soil that have been saturated with tar, oil or other contaminating substances. Not only dangerous to handle, the disturbed soil is often infused with very unpleasant and in some cases potentially nauseous odors.

  • In-Situ Soil & Groundwater Remediation

The use of H2O2 to chemically oxidize the contaminants into mineralized products (CO2 , salts, and readily biodegradable organic fragments) offers a number of advantages over these current treatment methods. Benefits of Soil Decontamination by Chemical Oxidation: The reagent used (H2O2) is inexpensive, readily available, and has as its reaction products water and oxygen; The chemistry of the process (Fenton's Reagent) has been known for over 50 years and its applicability to a wide variety of contaminants is well documented; The process is easily applied and controlled; The treatment occurs rapidly, lasting from a few hours to a few weeks; The process produces no by-product wastestreams, and can be tuned for the degree of contaminant removal desired. This allows it to be used synergistically with other technologies such as biotreatment or soil washing.

In-situ Reduction Technology of Groundwater Remediation Industry

In-situ groundwater remediation method is based on injection of Fe(0) nanoparticles through application wells directly into the contaminated water. nZVI injection is very fast, reaching significantly lower operating costs compared to commonly used remediation methods (expensive construction of reactive barriers, building of pump&treat stations, excavation of contaminated soil etc.). In comparison to other in-situ technologies a far lower quantities of injected chemical is needed due to high efficiency of the product and thus the time and cost of remediation is reduced.

Hazardous waste treatment solutions for site remediation

The contamination of soils as a result of prior chemical production can often be unpredictable and diverse. The majority of such pollutants will require an ex-situ treatment method. Many of our VacuDry units can be used for direct-feeding contaminated soils. To reduce the input amount for thermal treatment, the VacuDry units can also be used in combination with soil-washing plants: In this case, customers only feed the high polluted fractions and screened fines (e.g. below 10 mm), as well as the filter-cake from the soil washing process. However, we are able to handle soil contaminated with mercury, hydrocarbons, PAH, PCB, dioxins, furans, organic-lead compounds and many more. VacuDry plants for on-site ex-situ remediation projects are delivered in a modular design.

  • Gas infusion technology solutions for the groundwater remediation areas

Gas inFusion is a mass transfer operation whereby sparingly soluble gases are dissolved in liquids in a completely bubbleless fashion. The efficiency of this manner of mass transfer allows the production of stable liquid streams containing enormous quantities of dissolved gas on scales ranging from cc/min to thousands of GPM at a fraction of the energy cost normally associated with gas dissolution.

  • Soil and Groundwater treatment solutions for bioremediation industry

Today bioremediation is successfully used as soil– and groundwater remediation technology. Many bioremediation systems, both in-situ as ex-situ techniques, usually result in considerable cost savings. Since the beginning of the 1980’s both in-situ and ex-situ bioremediation projects have been successfully completed worldwide through the use of preselected and adapted bacteria. QM Environmental Services supplies a range of microbial, bioactivator and nutrient products and gas delivery systems for the use in both aerobic and anaerobic bioremediation programs. Most common contaminants ranging from aliphatic hydrocarbons such as petroleum, lubrication oils, aromatic compounds like benzene and toluene to chlorinated solvents can be treated with these products.

  • Sulfide Oxidation with Hydrogen Peroxide (H2O2)

Sulfide Odor Control Sulfide is found throughout the environment as a result of both natural and industrial processes. Most sulfide found in nature was produced biologically (under anaerobic conditions) and occurs as free hydrogen sulfide (H2S) - characterized by its rotten egg odor. We are most likely to encounter biogenic H2S in sour groundwaters, swamps and marshes, natural gas deposits, and sewage collection/treatment systems. Manmade sources of H2S typically occur as a result of natural materials containing sulfur (e.g., coal, gas and oil) being refined into industrial products. For a variety of reasons - aesthetics (odor control), health (toxicity), ecological (oxygen depletion in receiving waters), and economic (corrosion of equipment and infrastructure) - sulfide laden wastewaters must be handled carefully and remediated before they can be released to the environment. Typical discharge limits for sulfide are < 1 mg/L. Sulfide Treatment Alternatives There are dozens of alternatives for treating sulfide laden waters, ranging from simple air stripping (for the low levels present in groundwaters) to elaborate sulfur recovery plants (used to treat several tons per day at refineries and coal burning power plants). There are processes based on biology (using compost filters, scrubbing media, or inhibition/disinfection), chemistry (oxidation, precipitation, absorption, and combination), and physics (adsorption, volatilization, and incineration). Each process occupies a niche which is often defined by the scale and continuity of treatment, whether the sulfide is in solution or is a gas, the concentration of sulfide involved, and the disposition of the sulfide containing medium. However, for reasons relating to convenience and flexibility, chemical oxidation (using hydrogen peroxide) continues to grow in its scope of application. Treatment with Hydrogen Peroxide While other peroxygens such as permonosulfuric (Caro’s) acid, peracetic acid, and persulfates will oxidize sulfide, their use for this application is overkill. Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) is considerably simpler and more cost-effective. H2O2 may control sulfides in two ways, depending on the application: Prevention - by providing dissolved oxygen which inhibits the septic conditions which lead to biological sulfide formation; and Destruction - by oxidizing sulfide to elemental sulfur or sulfate ion.
