    There are a number of factors that affect the capacity and operation of a typical amine system. Solid or liquid contaminants in the system may cause foaming. The presence of foaming is typically addressed by the addition of expensive antifoam chemicals and/or by reducing the operating capacity of the amine system. These solid and liquid contaminants are either ingressed into the system with the feed stream, or generated within it as a result of the chemistry of the system.     Capabilities of the Adsorbent Tube Injector System (ATIS™)

    The Adsorbent Tube Injector System (ATIS) was developed at Supelco® by R&D Scientists, as a tool to assist in our comprehensive adsorbent research for thermal desorption tubes. The ATIS provides an efficient means of transferring calibration standards in either the gas or liquid phase onto the adsorbent packed tubes. The ATIS employs the technique of flash vaporization to vaporize the sample in a continuous flow of inert gas; the inert gas carries the sample to the tube. The sample pathway of the ATIS is constructed of glass and stainless steel. The calibration standard is injected by a syringe through a replaceable septum in the center of the injection glassware, which is heated. After enough time has elapsed, typically less than five minutes, the tube is removed from the ATIS and analyzed using the appropriate analytical technique for that adsorbent tube.

  • Cooling Towers and Process Water System Cleaning Applications Using Hydrogen Peroxide

    The unique properties of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) make it a good technology for keeping cooling loops, process water loops and heat exchangers clean from fouling that can occur due to various contaminants in the water. Hydrogen peroxide works well in removing organic fouling on surfaces through mechanical means and in specific applications through biocidal mechanisms. Hydrogen peroxide can be used in a shock treatment mode where it is fed based on a timer set-up. It can also be used occasionally at higher concentrations for maintenance cleaning purposes of fouled heat exchangers, cooling water loops and process water loops. Performing an occasional shock cleaning of a heat exchanger with hydrogen peroxide can remove buildup from surfaces and can result in improved heat transfer efficiency. By removing surface fouling, hydrogen peroxide may also improve the efficiency of other biocides such as bleach, bromine and non-oxidizers.

  • Ozone/UV systems for swimming pool water treatment

    Studies have proven that chlorine use has negative consequences due to the formation of byproducts, i.e. chlorinated organic compounds and chloramines. Irritation of eyes and mucous membranes, drying out the skin as well as “chlorine smell” are well known troubles. However, these byproducts also accelerate the corrosion in pool halls and significant risk is given by their toxicity (chloramines, combined chlorine) and/or carcinogenicity. Higher rate of asthma prevalence is one of the consequences. These are the reasons why the combined chlorine content - as a marker of chlorination byproducts presence - is to be monitored and why its limit values are specified by authorities. To meet the limits can be tedious and expensive because more water has to be changed and heated up. Chlorine disinfection is not sufficient to prevent infections caused by some waterborne pathogens as dangerous protozoan parasites Cryptosporidium parvum and Giardia lamblia.
