  • Moisture Monitoring for Injection Moulding

Excess humidity in the air used to dry plastic pellets has several adverse effects on the quality of the products produced. The strength of the product is decreased. The surface of the product can be blemished. The product can have a ‘cloudy’ appearance.

    Indoor Air Quality Monitoring

Accurate control of critical indoor environmental parameters is not only essential for the well-being and comfort of building occupants, but also has a major impact on energy efficiency. A multitude of parameters can affect indoor air quality (IAQ) from gases such as carbon dioxide (CO2), carbon monoxide (CO) and volatile organic compounds to particulates, humidity and bacteria such as legionella. CO2 is one of the greatest variables affecting indoor environmental quality since it is produced by people occupying the building. CO2 production is a function of the number, size and activity levels of the people present in the building. Local concentrations can therefore vary dramatically – for example when a meeting room is occupied, or while workers are on lunch or coffee breaks. Excess CO2 levels can lead to tiredness and a lack of concentration and can contribute to the symptoms of Sick Building Syndrome such as headaches, eye, nose and throat irritation, itchy skin and nausea.

  • Gas control equipment for Life Science

QCAL introduces CO2Control for incubators and test chambers. These gas dosing units can be adapted to nearly every incubator or test chamber. The user can set a CO2 concentration up to 30% vol. CO2. The CO2Control measures the actual concentration and adds CO2 from a CO2 gas container. The NDIR CO2-sensor has an excellent long-term stability, which provides years of stable CO2 measurement. Also the other parts as the sample gas pump, valve and fittings are designed for maintenance-free use over years. Humidity effects are compensated upto 95% rh at 37°C, also temperature effects are automatically corrected upto 50°C. The other way to control gas atmospheres in any life science equipment is to use gas mixing units GMS_2CH ( 2 channels ) or GMS_3CH ( 3 channels ) for N2, O2 and CO2. They can match flowrates up to 80 liters per minute with a concentration range up to 100 Vol% O2 and/or CO2.

Gas Detection Solutions for Gold Refining

Hydrogen Cyanide (HCN) is a highly toxic compound that is a byproduct of many industrial processes. Existing HCN point sensors are maintenance intensive, slow to respond and provide limited coverage. Many HCN sensors do not work reliably in hot or cold weather, or in humid environments. Our technology can be used for fixed monitoring applications or for temporary protection of workers during construction projects.

  • Transport Meteorology

The Biral sensors provide reliable, consistently accurate weather information day and night. This allows timely decisions to be made about spraying or gritting road surfaces and for switching road warning signs, achieving the best results from limited and valuable resources. In addition to the visibility and present weather sensors, Biral are the appointed UK Distributor for the meteorological instrument manufacturer, Adolf Thies GmbH & Co. KG. The Thies Clima range of meteorological sensors is highly respected and used globally in many advanced meteorological applications. It offers a complete and complimentary range of sensors allowing a highly specified meteorological monitoring station or system to be constructed. The range includes cup and vane and ultrasonic anemometers, temperature, humidity, pressure and radiation sensors, as well as a wide range of compact weather stations and precipitation sensors.

  • Prescribed Burning

A general understanding of the separate and combined effects of several weather elements on fire behavior is needed to plan and execute a good prescribed burn. Because weather and fuel factors interact, an experienced prescribed burner can conduct a successful burn even with one or more factors slightly outside the desired range—as long as they are offset by other factors. Accurate fire weather monitoring of fire danger indices via the RAWS network, providing historical data leading up to a prescribed burn is critical in the planning stages. However, having accurate weather conditions in a micro-climate scale in real time during the execution of a prescribed burn is just as critical. The weather variables most applicable to prescription burns are air temperature, relative humidity, wind direction, wind speed and precipitation. A combination of wind speed, relative humidity, temperature, and solar insulation largely determines fuel condition which in turn affects fire behavior.
