industrial odor control product Applications

  • Odor control for the pet food production industry

The pet food industry produces dry and ‘wet’ food for pets. The odour emission of a pet food factory can be high and likely leads to odour nuisance in the surrounding neighbourhood, badly influencing the image of the factory.

  • Odor control for the food industry

The food industry has a wide range of different production processes. Each process uses its own production technology. The food industry has very high standards when it comes to hygiene. Installations and ducting must be made out of stainless steel, in order to be cleaned periodically. Aerox has a lot of experience within the food industry and its specific demands.

    Odor control for composite

A Single Solution To Manage Composite Odors: Many resins used in the composite industry emit styrene vapors which are considered hazardous in high concentrations and whose odor is an unpleasant nuisance. This gas is categorized as a volatile organic compound (VOC) and listed by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA) as a Hazardous Air Pollutant (HAP). Styrene is considered highly reactive in the atmosphere and may contribute to smog formation and the production of secondary air pollutants.

    Odor control for metal casting

Use Ecosorb products to remove foundry smells naturally. Ecosorb odor control products by OMI Industries are extremely effective at breaking down and eliminating the many odorous gases produced by the metalcasting process. They chemically convert foul and potentially harmful gases into non-odorous byproducts. Within the metalcasting industry, Ecosorb products are effective on amines, sulfur dioxide, phenols, formaldehyde, ammonia, partially burnt hydrocarbons solvent odors and more.

    Odor control for food processing

Safely Eliminate Odors Created By Food Processing: Malodors generated by the food processing industry vary enormously since they can be generated in the production, processing, and wastewater treatment areas of the plant. Regardless of the source, all of these odors may be offensive to the public.

Odor control for pulp and paper

Pulp and paper production with none of the odor. Pulp and paper manufacturing is a notorious source of nuisance odors, often stemming from hydrogen sulfide, mercaptans and sulfur dioxide. Fortunately, Ecosorb products offer a natural and effective solution to neutralize these odors and all others associated with the paper and pulp industry. Ecosorb odor eliminators have been used repeatedly by large paper and pulp manufacturers to control odors around on-site black liquor lagoons, primary clarification ponds and landfills.

Odor control for rubber and plastic

From process to product, we remove odors from rubber and plastic. Malodors, whether connected to the process or embedded within the end product, are an inherent concern associated with manufacturing polymers. Fortunately, OMI Industries has a versatile solution that’s proven to work within the plastics and rubber industries. Ecosorb odor neutralizing products feature a proprietary, natural and environmentally safe formulation that’s fast acting and effective at removing detrimental polymer odors without the use of masking agents or fragrances.

Odor control for municipal and government

Eliminating industrial odors naturally is our civic duty. To handle the odor control needs of municipal and government agencies, OMI Industries has created MUNI odor neutralizing product. Similar in many ways to its siblings in the Ecosorb products line, Muni odor control product uses Van Der Waals forces to chemically react with malodor molecules to eliminate odors combined with a natural formulation that makes it safe to work with. What’s more, the Muni product is surprisingly economical to use. It was specially developed to meet the tight budget limitations faced by municipalities without skimping on industrial odor control effectiveness.

    Odor control for refining/petroleum

You refine the fuel, we’ll remove the odors. Oil refineries and petrochemical plants may generate large volumes of odor from the processing and refining of different fuels. Sulfides, mercaptans, and hydrocarbon compounds are all closely related to the oil industry. The odors generated from these industrial compounds are of a high nuisance value and generally create concern among local air boards and the public. Ecosorb odor removal products may be used in a variety of areas around the refinery including water treatment facilities, sludge ponds, sulfur recovery units, and API separators. To remove odors during tank cleaning and maintenance operations, portable dispersion systems can be used in the immediate work area to control malodors. Ecosorb products can be directly injected into flues and stacks and may be used as a substitute scrubbing solution in some applications.

  • Sulfide Oxidation with Hydrogen Peroxide (H2O2)

Sulfide Odor Control Sulfide is found throughout the environment as a result of both natural and industrial processes. Most sulfide found in nature was produced biologically (under anaerobic conditions) and occurs as free hydrogen sulfide (H2S) - characterized by its rotten egg odor. We are most likely to encounter biogenic H2S in sour groundwaters, swamps and marshes, natural gas deposits, and sewage collection/treatment systems. Manmade sources of H2S typically occur as a result of natural materials containing sulfur (e.g., coal, gas and oil) being refined into industrial products. For a variety of reasons - aesthetics (odor control), health (toxicity), ecological (oxygen depletion in receiving waters), and economic (corrosion of equipment and infrastructure) - sulfide laden wastewaters must be handled carefully and remediated before they can be released to the environment. Typical discharge limits for sulfide are < 1 mg/L. Sulfide Treatment Alternatives There are dozens of alternatives for treating sulfide laden waters, ranging from simple air stripping (for the low levels present in groundwaters) to elaborate sulfur recovery plants (used to treat several tons per day at refineries and coal burning power plants). There are processes based on biology (using compost filters, scrubbing media, or inhibition/disinfection), chemistry (oxidation, precipitation, absorption, and combination), and physics (adsorption, volatilization, and incineration). Each process occupies a niche which is often defined by the scale and continuity of treatment, whether the sulfide is in solution or is a gas, the concentration of sulfide involved, and the disposition of the sulfide containing medium. However, for reasons relating to convenience and flexibility, chemical oxidation (using hydrogen peroxide) continues to grow in its scope of application. Treatment with Hydrogen Peroxide While other peroxygens such as permonosulfuric (Caro’s) acid, peracetic acid, and persulfates will oxidize sulfide, their use for this application is overkill. Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) is considerably simpler and more cost-effective. H2O2 may control sulfides in two ways, depending on the application: Prevention - by providing dissolved oxygen which inhibits the septic conditions which lead to biological sulfide formation; and Destruction - by oxidizing sulfide to elemental sulfur or sulfate ion.
