  • Noise and vibration pollution control for mining industry

In a process unique to the mining industry, mineral ore must be extracted and conveyed to a means of transportation in a challenging environment. This involves the use of high-power fixed and mobile equipment with complex kinematics. The entire process is carried out in cyclic and variable operating conditions with significant safety and accessibility constraints. Mining operations are also a source of noise and vibration pollution both for site workers and people in the surrounding area.

  • Noise and vibration pollution control for paper industry

The paper industry depends upon a continuous industrial process in which the paper machine is the central factor. This system is based on several variable speed rollers mounted on roller-bearing blocks, and damage to a single block can be enough to shut down production for several hours.

  • Noise and vibration problem solutions for industrial & environmental sector

Acoustic Associates have been involved on numerous large scale projects, in the quarrying, mining, power generation and waste management sectors where the Secretary of State required full Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) to be able to properly assess and balance the suitability and sustainability of large scale developments. Acoustic Associates can provide the noise chapters for these EIA’s and are happy to work in interdisciplinary teams to provide co-ordinated and seamless reports. Acoustic Associates has developed detailed knowledge of the renewable energies sector with particular interest in wind power, bio-generation and waste management projects, where though understanding of the physics of acoustics, the planning environment and commercial constraint need to be brought together.

Noise monitoring solutions for environmental noise and vibration

Environmental noise is unwanted sound and vibration coming from a plethora of sources, among them industrial plants, road and rail traffic, construction work, and aircraft. Add to these sports events, shooting ranges, leisure parks, etc, and you have noise from many different sources, each with different characteristics and posing specific problems for the professionals who have to assess them. The way the problems are dealt with differs immensely from country to country and is very much dependent on culture, economy and politics. We offer solutions to cover all demands from level checks to in-depth analysis, from measurement or prediction, to post-processing and reporting.

  • Noise and vibration monitoring for the construction site

By implementing a noise and vibration monitoring system, the impact of construction site activities can be managed by: Complying with legal requirements relating to public health sanctioning the absence of appropriate precautions to limit abnormally high levels of noise and vibrations. Taking environmental quality considerations into account (HQE approach). Limiting noise and vibration pollution with the comfort of neighbouring residents in mind. Enabling companies in the public works and construction industry to adopt a transparent approach to communication with local residents, in order to avoid resistance and instead gain their support for a given project. Providing the site manager with reliable and official data, should it be required. 01dB offers solutions for construction professionals to suit the requirements of each building site. It provides them with metrological systems (such as the certified DUO sound level meter, dB4 and MR2002) with 01dB WebMonitoring services to ensure optimal control of noise & vibration impact of the construction work, using as well communication tools intended for the general public.

  • Wind Farm Noise Assessment by XL2

One of the largest acoustic consulting firms in Australia was engaged by the New South Wales Department of Planning & Industry to conduct wind farm noise assessments. The goal was to perform a specialist, independent acoustic compliance audit of three major wind farms located near Canberra, Australia’s capital city. The objective of the study was to conduct a detailed noise assessment at residential dwellings near to the wind farms. Three wind farms near Canberra, Australia, were investigated. XL2 Sound Level Meters were operated on a continuous basis, typically over a six week period at each wind farm. The XL2 was battery powered to enable continuous noise logging for two weeks at a time at each residential site. The recorded data was then processed in accordance with the relevant standards specified in the conditions of consent for wind farms.

  • Rugged Mobile Technology for Mining Industry

The mining and drilling industry uses handheld computers to handle timekeeping, vehicle tracking, maintenance, supplies deliveries and real-time communication with the back office. The advantages over a paper-based system are obvious: data collectors greatly streamline job functions, data errors are reduced and labor costs are minimized.

Mining and drilling naturally takes place in an extremely harsh environment, so the computer solution has to be tough enough to withstand challenges like vibrations, dust, moisture and temperature fluctuations.
