  • Groundwater Resource Management Applications

Water agencies and private water companies are tasked with the challenge of developing and maintaining sustainable water supplies, often centered on groundwater. Since 1987, the Westbay System has provided water managers with the flexibility to characterize groundwater in four-dimensions, leading to the optimization of management activities and the development of sustainable management practices.

  • High performance separation system for ethylene industry

Fundamental building block chemical used in the production chain of polyethylene, PVC, styrene, ethylene glycol, vinyl acetate, linear ∂-olefins and a host of other chemical products. Eliminate hydrocarbons in Quench Water system, minimize fouling, provide greater system reliability, lower maintenance, lower energy costs. Quench water contains emulsified heavy aromatic hydrocarbon (SG = 0.975). Cracked hydrocarbons are extremely reactive. Polymerization leads to fouling of quench system, exchangers, dilution steam generator. Fouling reduces plant profitability and on-stream reliability.

  • Air cleaning system for the K-12 education

The grades are in: a 2006 national report,Greening America’s Schools, concluded that environmentally friendly school buildings lead to lower operating costs, improved test scores, and enhanced student health. The report, produced by Capital E and co-sponsored by The American Institute of Architects (AIA), concluded that environmentally friendly schools save an average of $100,000 each year. The study examined 30 green schools built between 2001 and 2006, and determined that the total financial benefits of green schools are 20 times greater than their initial cost difference. Measurable benefits include energy and water savings, improved student health and higher test scores.

  • LifeFilta R20 Container & LifeFilta TapFilta for school children

Water not only keeps children healthy, but also helps them perform better. Children should drink water throughout the day, especially after physical activities. Not drinking adequate water can lead to poor concentration and sluggishness. Many schools have inadequate access to clean drinking water. Children normally end up carrying water from home in their already heavy school bags, or end up drinking soft drinks or other artificially sweetened drinks. Using the LifeFilta bottle by filling it directly from any school tap or other water source in rural schools will encourage children to drink water and keep them hydrated.

  • Groundwater Monitoring for Construction Sites

All construction affects groundwater and a water management plan will be required. From deforestation to urbanisation, from holes to heaps and dams to drains, they all have an affect on the groundwater. Deforestation causes an increase in the rate of run off of rainwater resulting in lower percolation of precipitation into the soil and a consequent increase in soil erosion leading to slope instability, hence land and mud slides. The increased rate of run off can cause small streams and large rivers to rise and flood in a shorter time, but also to dry up sooner. These conditions cause great difficulties for subsistence farmers in developing countries. Urbanisation also causes faster run off because of the non permeable surfaces such as roads, roofs and car parks. This also creates drainage problems that can lead to contamination and erosion of natural water courses.

  • Microbial Solutions for Soil Bioremediation

The remediation of soils, sludge, and water require more than just the addition of packaged microbes.  Microbial Discovery Group can assist you in applying a total systems approach to soil bioremediation. Here in the US, sometimes we take for granted how precious it is to have non-contaminated soils and water. In many countries, industrial pollution has destroyed the soil and water ecosystems leading to toxic concerns and poor health. We at Microbial Discovery Group believe the remediation of soils, sludge and water require more than just the addition of packaged microbes. Applying a total systems approach to soil and water remediation has to be the primary focus of your bioaugmentation program. We are here to help you in that process. Lucky for us, many of the recalcitrant pollutants in the environment will serve as food sources to microbes.  By taking advantage of using natural processes to clean up contaminated sites, MDG provides solutions by speeding up the biodegradation of harmful chemicals. By rebalancing the system with the proper microbial processes, chemical breakdown will go from years to weeks.  Let MDG work with you to start cleaning up the world, one site at a time.

  • Food Waste Recycling, Reduction or Disposal Systems for Education Sector

Multi Site University Campus: Leading the curve, Universities in particular were among the first sectors to realise the importance of dealing with food wastes and as early as 2006 the Universities took to Rocket in vessel composting and food waste dewatering. With multi campus applications and the importance of cost saving through the bulking together of wastes, bringing food wastes into a centralised process made most sense. Each of the campus refectories taking on Dehydra food dewatering systems to minimise the wastes before being transported to a centralised in vessel composting system. The sites tending to have grounds and gardens on which to utilise compost – a perfect application that can be seen using our equipment in Canada, the US and the UK. For those universities with boarding on site or swimming pools, the second option being the Dragon energy system for creating the heating and hot water needed at site as an alternative to fertilizer.

  • Environmental Monitoring

Environmental monitoring is becoming more important every day in local, national and international policies, showing the environmental awareness demanded by society.

This fact gives rise to an increase in the amount of legislation that obliges companies to law enforcement. Thus, the necessity of making more pollutants controls means high analysis expenses to the companies, which need to subcontract this service.

Although applications in this area advance, there is still a clear demand to get new portable and versatile analysis systems for many different application fields such as pollution in environmental or waste waters, monitoring nutrients in agricultural or horticultural water as well as general process control in chemistry industry. Because of the number of enviromental analysis required, there is a need for screening and monitoring measurements of these compounds at contaminated areas.

Traditional monitoring techniques are typically based on laboratory analysis of field-collected samples that require considerable effort and expense, and the sample may change before analysis. Moreover, the equipment currently available is too large and expensive and it cannot be made portable.Alternatively, microfluidic and electrochemical sensor technologies can contribute to the development of new portable monitoring systems, complementing standard analytical methods for different environmental monitoring applications. In this way, the decentralization and integration of all those typical analyses is the paramount importance in order to reduce cost, simplify the analytical process and make more accessible these technologies to end-users. The development of portable, robust, and accurate Lab-on-a-Chip systems to monitor priority compounds such as contaminants, explosives, chemical warfare agents, inorganic and organic ions is a demand of modern society. Portability allows analyses to be carried out outside of the laboratory, minimizing the risk of contaminating the sample and leading to a faster response time at a lower cost.

Thus, MicruX solutions and technologies open the gate to develop portable and esay-handly Lab-on-a-Chip devices in order to improve pollutants in-situ analysis in a very economic and efficient way.
