legionella Applications

  • Water treatment for legionella prevention and control

Whether you find yourself in a hotel bath room, cruise ship cabin, hospital, office building, industrial plant, greenhouse, car wash facility or your own hot tub, the combination of certain temperature levels, stagnant water and the presence of biofilm in water systems is a potential recipe for disaster: an outbreak of Legionnaires’ disease. An outbreak of Legionnaires’ disease is often the result of negligence, having legal repercussions for responsible parties. Because of its chemical and biocidal characteristics, chlorine dioxide is ideal for maintaining good standards of water hygiene. Chlorine dioxide has consistently been demonstrating to be the best molecule for eradicating the causative organism of Legionnaires’ disease.

Carbon Dioxide Monitoring for Indoor Air Quality

Introduction: Accurate control of critical indoor environmental parameters is not only essential for the well-being and comfort of building occupants, but also has a major impact on energy efficiency. A multitude of parameters can affect indoor air quality (IAQ) from gases such as carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide and volatile organic compounds to particulates, humidity and bacteria such as legionella. Carbon dioxide is one of the greatest variables affecting indoor environmental quality since it is produced by people occupying the building. Carbon dioxide production is a function of the number, size and activity levels of the people present in the building. Local concentrations can therefore vary dramatically – for example when a meeting room is occupied, or while workers are on lunch or coffee breaks.

  • Secondary disinfection treatment for commercial & institutional

Waterborne illness from microbial growth in water distribution systems is a real threat to water safety. MIOX’s patented Mixed Oxidant Solution (MOS) chemistry for secondary disinfection can help eradicate biofilm that can harbor Legionella and other microorganisms without the use of Chlorine Dioxide. MIOX generators improve workplace safety by eliminating the handling and storage of hazardous chemicals while maintaining steady disinfection residuals.

  • Water filtration with UV purification for healthcare

When hygiene is a matter of life and death and purity is premium, only Waterlogic is good enough. Tap water or traditional hospital water fountains can contain contaminants including pathogens such as Pseudomonas, Legionella, Streptococcus, and E. Coli. Is that safe? You don’t think so and neither do we. When it comes to healthcare, water quality must be of paramount importance.

    Indoor Air Quality Monitoring

Accurate control of critical indoor environmental parameters is not only essential for the well-being and comfort of building occupants, but also has a major impact on energy efficiency. A multitude of parameters can affect indoor air quality (IAQ) from gases such as carbon dioxide (CO2), carbon monoxide (CO) and volatile organic compounds to particulates, humidity and bacteria such as legionella. CO2 is one of the greatest variables affecting indoor environmental quality since it is produced by people occupying the building. CO2 production is a function of the number, size and activity levels of the people present in the building. Local concentrations can therefore vary dramatically – for example when a meeting room is occupied, or while workers are on lunch or coffee breaks. Excess CO2 levels can lead to tiredness and a lack of concentration and can contribute to the symptoms of Sick Building Syndrome such as headaches, eye, nose and throat irritation, itchy skin and nausea.

  • DOCUPAK LLC REDUCES COOLING TOWER CHEMICAL USAGE BY A THIRD

Docupak LLC, a full service marketing company headquartered in Alabaster, Alabama, has reduced chemical usage by a third and removed all scale from its cooling tower at its plant after installing the patented, award-winning Scalewatcher computerized, electronic water-conditioner from Scalewatcher North America. In addition there are no longer signs of algae growth on the cooling tower louvres. Founded in 1998, Docupak, the operating name of Document and Packaging Brokers Inc., develops and distributes materials for businesses nationwide. In addition to its headquarters in Alabaster, Alabama, the company also operates a further plant in Alexandria, VA and has sales offices in Atlanta, Chicago, Cincinnati, Dallas, Los Angeles, Tampa and Washington, D.C. Aware that health agencies continually draw attention to the risks of limescale and algae in cooling towers and wanting to reduce the use of chemicals in the cooling tower, Plant Manager, Anthony Kinstley decided to install the Scalewatcher electornic water-conditioner through local dealer, Al Chatham of Water Processing and Well Supply in Harpersville, Alabama. An industrial Scalewatcher was installed on to the water-feed line to the building and then a further unit was specifically fitted on to the recirculation line of the cooling tower. “Since using the system the scaling on our cooling tower has been eliminated and we currently use only a third of the original chemicals intended for the water treatment within our system”, said Anthony Kinstley. Many air conditioning and refrigeration plant systems are water-cooled. The heat generated by cooling coils is removed by water, which is passed through a water-cooling tower. These are recirculating systems, which operate at temperatures ideal for bacterial and algae growth, and have plentiful supplies of nutrients. In cooling towers, temperature, water hardness, pH, scale and corrosion are all factors, which increase the chance of biofilms, algae and Legionella colonization. The environmentally friendly Scalewatcher provides a permanent solution to hard water problems without the need of chemicals, salt or maintenance. It works by producing a varying electronically applied force field, induced by a coil wrapped around the outside of the pipework, which keeps the minerals in suspension and thus prevents limescale forming. The water’s increased solubility enables it to dissolve existing scale, which is gradually washed away. “Scalewatcher has proven itself to be highly effective. I would highly recommend this product and service without limitation,” concluded Antony Kinstley. Scalewatcher models are based on continuous research and over 25 years experience and expertise as market leaders in electronic scale control with countless units sold worldwide. The patented Scalewatcher systems are capable of treating pipe sizes from one to 120 inches. All Scalewatcher systems come with a full performance guarantee and are shipped throughout North America.
