metals in wastewater Applications

  • Wastewater treatment for the metal industry

Wastewater and process water treatment in the metal industry. Industrial waste water or circuit water in the metal industry can be broken down into many comprehensive, subject-specific areas. AWAS has developed various methods of treatment technology for the metal industry in the last 30 years. Generally we accept any environmental challenge and like to respond to individual problems.

  • Metal finishing wastewater solution

Metal finishing wastewater is a common application for ENCON Wastewater Evaporators. There are many types of wastewater generated in metal finishing. These include vibratory / tumbling wastewater, stamping wastewater, die casting wastewater and polishing wastewater. Metal Finishing wastewater cannot be simply flushed down the drain. Many companies choose to avoid the headaches of labor-intensive wastewater treatment technologies such as chemical treatment or filtration and simply pay to haul the wastewater. This however, can become quite expensive.

  • Wastewater treatment for the metallurgic industry

Waste water in this sector has a high concentration of heavy metals, oils and products in decomposition. The oils and emulgents lead to foam production at the water treatment plants. The treatment of these oils is very important.

Industrial wastewater solutions for electroplating wastewater

Reliably distilling complex and heavy metals: VACUDEST in electroplating applications. No company applying electroplating likes having to deal with the issue of “wastewater”. But what happens when authorities take samples of the wastewater unannounced, and finds the nickel limit has been well exceeded? A horror scenario resulting in a lot of stress, work and expense.

Water Testing for Automatic Rinse Tank Controls

Proper rinsing is one of the most important steps in quality manufacturing or metal finishing. Plenty of low cost, good quality water for rinsing has been available in the past, so rinse water conservation has been largely ignored. Today, this is no longer true. Tap water costs have increased dramatically. Various new regulations are now in effect which limit the allowable volume of wastewater. Others require wastewater treatment. Still other laws tax the amount of water going down the sewer. These factors have all encouraged many manufacturers and platers to invest in automatic rinse tank control systems. Many platers using automatic control systems for the first time are pleased to discover a reduction in water usage of up to 80%.

Industrial wastewater solutions for vibratory grinding wastewater

Using innovative recycling technologies in vibratory grinding processes. Rinse water from vibratory grinding processes ca be contaminated with heavy metals, oils and, depending on the process, even a variety of chemicals. It cannot be discharged into the public sewer system, and usually requires to be disposed of with specialized waste management companies expensivly. But there are alternatives: Vacuum distillation with VACUDEST evaporators is an economical, resource-friendly method for treating this industrial wastewater. It conditions the vibratory grinding wastewater in such a way that it can be reused in the process.

Industrial wastewater solutions for crack detection wastewater

Tracking the tiniest cracks – with H2O wastewater treatment. Heavy use, material fatigue and material faults can cause tiny cracks in plastic and metal parts. These are so small that they are invisible to the naked eye. But they can still be relevant to safety, e.g. on the wings of passenger jets. That’s why these parts are regularly checked for micro cracks. One way of doing this is the dye penetration process, where the part to be checked is first thoroughly cleaned. Applying a special dye and using a suitable developer, the tiniest cracks become visible on the surface, enabling defective parts to be easily identified and replaced. If the crack check reveals no problems, the transfer agents are washed and approved for further operations.

Pollutant Decontamination for the Wastewater Treatment Industry

All described properties of Fe(0) nanoparticles can be even used for decomposition of pollutants contained in the waste water, mainly for treatment of industrial sewage and hutch water. The usage of nanoiron can represent a significant qualitative step in the classical technologies of water treatment including drinking water. The extremely reactive iron nanoparticles thus offer a possibility to solve long-lasting problems with a high content of uranium and arsenic in a variety of localities in the Central Europe. They can be also used for a reduction of the content of heavy metals, nitrates and phosphates in the drinking water. Just these inorganic pollutants, which are hardly or expensively removed by standard technologies, are effectively removed by Fe(0) nanoparticles.

  • Industrial Engineered Plastic for the Wastewater Industry

Over the past decade, Diversified Plastics has become a leading provider of sprockets and other plastic components to the wastewater industry. This is, in part, because many treatment facilities are moving away from metal and toward plastic components.

    • Plastic components are much lighter than steel, reducing shipping costs and making them far easier and less labor-intensive to install.
    • Plastic components are as or more durable than steel and reduce friction, which lengthens the life of the mating components and also lowers energy consumption.
    • Plastic components not only cost less to purchase upfront, they reduce long-term maintenance costs.

Measuring Fats, Oil and Grease (FOG) in Wastewater

It is estimated that 23-28% of Sanitary Sewer Overflows (SSOs) are due to Fats, Oil and Grease (FOG). With significant growth in the commercial food sector on top of other high FOG producing industries such as metal processors, meat packers, cosmetic manufacturers and industrial laundry establishments, the need for publicly owned treatment plants (POTWs) and industries to regulate and monitor FOG is crucial to public health. Besides clogged sewer lines, high FOG levels also disrupt the effective operation of a wastewater treatment plant. An important feature of any FOG program is locating and monitoring high oil and grease producing industries and food service establishments. InfraCal TOG/TPH Analyzers provide a simplified procedure for FOG analysis based on solvent extraction and infrared absorption which can give the regulator or operator an on-site result in less than 10 minutes.

  • Industrial Meshes for Distillation

In the demanding applications in distillation technology, i.e. the separation of high-molecular compounds, SolidWEAVE metal meshes are applied in structured mesh packs. Wire mesh packs with GKD filter meshes make delicate separation processes possible with low temperatures and short residence time – keyfactors for distillation process reliability.

  • Industrial water softening

The presence of certain metal ions in water causes a variety of problems. These ions interfere with the action of soaps, lead to build up of limescale, which can foul plumbing, boilers, heating equipment. Water softening is the removal of calcium, magnesium, and certain other metal cations in hard water. The resulting soft water extends the lifetime of plumbing and heating equipment. Softening of low TDS ( Total Dissolved Solids ) water is done commonly with a Strong Acid Cation ( SAC ) exchange resin operating in the sodium form and regenerated with brine. PuriTech`s latest development is a very performant continuous ion exchanger, based on PuriTech`s innovative ION-IX technology which is based on true counter-current ion exchange.

Water Treatment Solutions for Radium Removal

Radium is found naturally in uranium ores. It is an alkaline earth metal that decomposes in water and  it is over a million times more radioactive than the same mass of uranium. As a radiological hazard that emits alpha, beta, and gamma rays, it is a carcinogen.

  • Industrial water Copper removal and recovery

Pure copper is soft and malleable; a freshly exposed surface has a reddish-orange color. It is used as a conductor of heat and electricity, a building material, and a constituent of various metal alloys. Recycling is a major source of copper in the modern world. A combination of economic and regulatory factors are now at work to make metal recycle and water reuse very attractive.

  • Industrial water Gold and Silver

Cyanidation is still the most widely used method to leach gold, using sodium or calcium cyanide as lixiviant. An anionic gold-cyanide complex is formed that is extractable by basic resins. Other metals present in the ore, such as silver and base metals ( copper, nickel, cobalt, zinc, iron, etc. ) are also leached in cyanide media. Selective ion exchange resins are designed to preferentially adsorb the mono-valent gold-cyanide species.
