photovoltaic Applications

  • Metrology for the photovoltaics industry

Quality control to maximize efficiency is critical in the competitive photovoltaic industry. For some time solar texture has been thought to qualitatively affect solar cell efficiency. However, through large-area, 3D measurements and areal feature parameters, quantitative correlation of texture to efficiency has only recently been obtained. We now know that ISO 3D surface parameters linearly correlate with solar cell efficiency.

Chemical Analyzing in Photovoltaics for the Solar Power Industry

In the earlier days, the chemistry involved in solar cell manufacturing was relatively simple, using commodity chemicals. With cell efficiencies continuously on the rise and new cell concepts slowly being introduced with increased speed of processing, precise chemical concentration control is becoming crucial to obtain consistency and more cost-effective manufacturing of solar panels. This is possible by monitoring on-line the etching bath composition, a small but genuine step forward in your competitive advantage.

  • Evaporators technology for photovoltaic & Microelectronics industries

The manufacturing process of the cells that make up the photovoltaic systems and the printed circuits require water in quantity and high quality. This water has to be managed wisely so as not to affect the productivity and the expenses of the plant.

  • Supervision of Photovoltaic Power Plants in Japan

The team of K&S technical experts perform independent technical inspections of the photovoltaic system and clarifies technical issues. The advisory service begins even before the actual construction of the photovoltaic power plant - in the design and contract review. It is ensured that all the requirements of the building permit of the relevant Japanese authorities are fulfilled and the contract is aligned with the system. Based on the continuous construction and factory acceptance tests of components, possible quality defects from the start can be reduced to an absolute minimum. With the local networks of the Japanese technology institutions such as New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO), Japan Electrical Safety & Environment Technology Laboratories (JET), Japan Photovoltaic Energy Association (JPEA) and other leading technology institutions, K&S combines a comprehensive local technical advisory service in Japan.

  • TESTS ON THE FIELD FOR PV PLANTS

There is no legislation to control of the proper functioning of pyranometers used to measure solar radiation installed in the PV field. The control can be effectively carried out with portable instruments suitable to avoid uninstalling pyranometers set in areas normally inaccessible as placed at the side of panels. A quick test on the field assesses whether a good maintenance is sufficient to obtain a reliable measurement of the solar radiation or if it is necessary to send radiation sensors to the manufacturer for a control. In order to make a test on the field and verify the proper operation of a photovoltaic system, Delta Ohm provides a set of tools that allow an easy and flexible use.

  • Water treatment research for microelectronics industry

As devices get smaller and the fabrication plants get larger, the purity of the water required for ultrapure water systems increases. In terms of water reuse, the industry has relatively conservative attitudes towards recycling water for ultrapure water applications, but wastewater is treated and reused for cooling and other less critical purposes. Besides semiconductors, two other silicon-based sectors of the microelectronics industry need large volumes of highly pure water: flat panel displays (FPD) and photovoltaics (PV). Although, both sectors are in the process of maturing we anticipate that the increasing complexity of FPD and PV devices will create demand for even higher purity water.

  • Waste gas & wastewater treatment for the solar industry

Generating solar energy is considered `green technology`, even though the production of solar cells based on silicon predominantly uses process stages that have been common practice in the semiconductor industry for many years. As in the semiconductor industry the production of solar cells employs dangerous and environmentally harmful substances, which require abatement according to legal provisions. The production of photovoltaic cells therefore is subject to strict requirements for treatment of waste gases and wastewater. Solutions need to be easy and cost-effective. The contaminated wastewaters and waste gases should, under no circumstances, lower performance, endanger the health and safety of humans, or otherwise negatively affect the availability of production facilities. The safety of the production line must be guaranteed at every step and in every operating situation.
