Large pipes & ducts, hot tapping, purging flow solutions

The measurement of gas flow in large ducts or pipes offers its own set of challenges. Large ducts and pipes often have swirls or turbulence in them which makes measurement of true gas flow difficult. Sierra has developed a number of solutions to this vexing problem, including stand-alone flow conditioning elements and multiple arrays of thermal sensors. By including hot taps and purging systems, such arrays can be very flexible.

  • Sewer Meter -

Sewer Meters monitor sewage level and flow within the sewers. Benefits gained by sewer monitoring include: (1) Detection of overflow conditions before overflow occurs thereby preventing hazardous environmental events. (2) Detection of blocked sewer pipes, allowing quick and focused maintenance thereby reducing maintenance costs. (3)Detection of over-used and under-used pipes for long term municipal planning. (4) Monitoring of sewage flow in sensitive sites such as flow to the river or sea. (5) Estimation of sewage flow for costing purposes and especially for pricing the use of public infrastructure by industrial plants. The sewer meter solution consists of two main components: (1) The fielded component includes GaugerGSM, an ultrasonic non-contact level sensor integrated with GSM cellular transmitter. The fielded component also includes accessories such as external battery pack. (2) A web-based monitoring application for presenting data from all sewer sites.

    PipeMic

Leak noises on plastic pipes are often not audible for correlation process or geophone application. Also the run of the pipes are often unkown. With the PipeMic from F.A.S.T. you have now a two in one tool - for the utmost precision leak detection, and pipe tracing with end point determination.

  • Smoke generator device for leak testing & building envelope testing

Smoke is the perfect medium for discovering where leaks are and how big they are! Filling a `leaky` building, ductwork, pipes, aircraft or containment area with smoke and ideally adding a small amount of pressure to the area being tested, will result in a visible discharge of smoke and, simply put, the greater the volume of smoke, the bigger the leak. After Concept developed a bespoke system for their aircraft testing requirements, a spokesperson for the RAF commented: `The use of smoke as a means by which to detect cabin pressurisation leaks has been shown to be extremely effective and is unquestionably superior to any alternative detection method used to date!`

    Aqua M300 Intelligent Geophone

With the Aqua M300 leak detectors have a multifunctional tool to Pinpoint or Pre-locate leakages and to trace pipes in conjunction with a PWG. The biggest advantage compared to other related products are the 256 analogue and digital filters which enables the user to shut off disturbing noises very precisely. Also the extension for H2 tracer gas comes without competition and makes this device a essential tool for leak detectors.

  • Microbial testing in cooling water system industry

Superior reliability for superior control! Biocide treatments are essential to control microbiological growth in cooling systems. If not properly managed, the warm environments of cooling systems are ideal for the growth of microorganisms. As microorganism communities grow in cooling systems, they can attach to pipe walls and form biofilms. These biofilms pose serious risks, from human health risks like Legionnaire`s disease to reduced operating efficiency and eventually to equipment failure via microbiologically influenced corrosion (MIC).

  • Real-time In-situ Effluent Monitoring

The UviLux BOD Indicator enables in-situ, real-time, reporting of BOD within both natural water systems and water processing plants. The monitor detects fluorescent proteins that are inherent within sewage and slurry and provides an output in BOD equivalent units. The principle behind the measurement is the excitation of Tryptophan-like fluorescence within UV wavelength band, which has been shown to correlate with both BOD and bacterial contamination. With complete flexibility of deployment methodology, the UviLux BOD Indicator can be applied to both water supply and water recovery processing plants. For water supply processing, the UviLux BOD Indicator can be applied at the front end to the water intake to provide alarm of any contaminated water entering the plant. Applications within Waste Water Treatment Works can include monitoring of effluent levels at the final outflow point (into rivers and coastal areas) as well as the primary, secondary & tertiary stages, the data potentially feeding into energy saving systems to optimise process performances. The CTG UviLux BOD Indicator in-situ fluorometer can also be used within pipe and channel networks to test for incidences of black water and grey water cross-over.

Area-velocity flowmeter for sewage lagoon discharge flow monitoring

The Township of South Glengarry installs a new Greyline AVFM 5.0 Area-Velocity Flow Meter to measure continuous discharge from their municipal sewage lagoon. The sealed ultrasonic sensor is mounted in a horizontal 12` PVC pipe. The AVFM replaced a magnetic flowmeter that was unable to measure seasonal low flow rates.

Sewage Treatment Plants and Flow Sensors for Industry Application

In sewage treatment plants, flow sensors are primarily installed for internal reasons. Ultrasonic flow meters are used to control the flow velocity in partially filled and fulfilled pressurized pipes, specific plant components, for leak detection or to control the use of additives. International regulations such as the EU-Directive for handling municipal waste water require flow metering for a continuous surveillance of waste water flow. Defective flow monitoring in sewage-treatment plants can therefore influence their operation, but there can also be legal or environmental consequences.

Water Monitoring and Flow Measurement Systems for Water Supply

Although there is enough water on earth, its uneven distribution, the rising population and our carelessness drinking water starts to get short. In the future more and more pipelines for drinking water will be built all over the globe. In order to operate huge and complex pipe networks efficiently, water flow measurement and flow monitoring will become necessary. The increasing efficiency of ultrasonic flow meters will make such calculations more and more effective.

  • Smoke generator device for building envelope, energy studies & air tightness testing

The air tightness or leakage rate of a building is the uncontrolled flow of air through holes, gaps and cracks in the fabric of a building, which may not be detectable simply by looking at the outside of the building. Filling a building or void with smoke and pressurising that volume, will result in a visible discharge of smoke from any problem areas.

  • Monitoring Sewage Flow

Monitoring Sewage Flow is a critical tool for local governments, for water and waste-water utilities and for industrial plants. Sewage monitoring can prevent environmental disasters such as sewage overflow within populated neighborhoods or excessive waste flow into local lakes, rivers or sea. Sewage monitoring is also an important tool for short term and long term planning of the sewers infrastructure. Short term refers to just-in-time and cost effective maintenance. For example, sending the technical team to the correct manhole at the correct time to clean and eliminate obstructions. Long term planning refers to designing the correct pipe diameters and correct slopes to contain sewage from new new buildings and plants. Sewage monitoring is a tool for billing plants who produce sewage above their water intake and a tool for plants which utilize water to request lower utility bills. Solid Applied Technologies provides a complete and tested solution for Sewer Monitoring.
