Continuous emissions monitoring for brick plants

Process control and emissions monitoring in a brick plant is a challenge due to the high concentrations of HF. The HF is generated in the process and gas phase HF can reach 50 mg/m3 or more. To use an extractive system in this environment will demand a lot of maintanence.

Continuous emissions monitoring for sulphuric acid production plants

The process control of a sulphuric acid plant needs good and reliable detection of gas phase sulphur dioxide (SO2). To measure SO2 is a challenge due to the corrosive environment and high concentration of SO2. Several places in the process needs to be monitored and to transport the sample gas is difficult. A large dynamic range is needed as the SO2 concentration can vary between 15% volume and a few mg/m3. Most systems installed need a lot of maintenance, sometimes as often as every day.

    VOCs Fugitive emissions detection

An oil refinery or petroleum refinery is an industrial process plant where crude oil is processed and refined into more useful petroleum products, such as naphtha, gasoline, diesel fuel, asphalt base, heating oil, kerosene, etc,. Oil refineries are typically large, sprawling industrial complexes with extensive piping running throughout, carrying streams of fluids between large chemical processing units. The refining process releases a number of different chemicals into the atmosphere mostly Hydrocarbons which cause severe health and safety hazards. • Measurement solution for VOC emissions monitoring

Protea has used our VOC gas analysers in many projects requiring the monitoring of complex mixes of VOCs. In the chemical and pharmaceutical industry, VOC abatement plants such as scrubbers and carbon-bed systems are typical installations where the use of Protea analysers and our VOC analysis expertise have proved valuable to plant operators. They prove a very powerful and flexible tool in both process gas measurements and VOC emissions monitoring. In the laboratory, Protea can deliver instruments with all the chemometric software and support to enable users to measure hundreds of gases.

  • Measurement solution for HF emissions from brickworks

Brick kilns, as well as other plants such as ceramics manufacturers and fertiliser producers, are a major producer of hydrogen fluoride (HF) emissions. HF is highly reactive gas and seriously damaging to human health, so has strict emissions limits imposed by legislation. In addition to the effects to humans, emissions have been found to damage crops and fruit trees, as well as the general environment. The brick industry strives to reduce the amount of HF emissions and numerous projects have been carried out into the research and development of proposed process modifications that introduce ways to reduce hydrogen fluoride emissions via the latest technology such as filters and scrubbers.

  • Fugitive emissions monitoring on industrial sites

The real-time monitoring of odorous gases or more classical pollutants emitted by industrial sites (wastewater treatment plants, refineries, landfills, etc.) appears nowadays as a requirement, in order to optimize the site process and operations, or communicate towards the neighborhoods and local public bodies. While emissions can be measured directly at the source (in the stack, exhaust, etc.), ambient air measurement all around the sites provides a better accuracy and anticipate pollution episodes. This is why Cairpol developed around its Cairsens sensors a concept of smart and autonomous stations: Cairnet. Without any maintenance nor calibration, Cairnet is a completely autonomous system energy-wised, with user friendly and efficient interface, accessible from any internet-connected device.

Gas monitoring instruments and systems for nitric acid process

Modern production method of nitric acid production may lead to generation of several different gaseous emission components, such as nitrogen oxides (NOx), ammonia NH3 and nitrous oxide N2O. Nitrogen monoxide is an intermediate gaseous product in manufacturing of nitric acid HNO3. NO is formed in a catalytic reaction between ammonia and molecular oxygen O2. But undesirable side reactions may result in formation of nitrogen dioxide NO2 and nitrous oxide N2O. The NO and NO2 emissions can be reduced by use of Selective Catalytic Reduction unit (SCR), which deploys ammonia gas NH3 to limit emissions of NO and NO2. A modern nitric acid plant needs to monitor the emissions of these gases.

  • Odour measurement on industrial sites like waste water treatment plants (WWTP), landfill, compost plant...

CairNet is a simple and efficient way to monitor processes and plant surroundings via a wireless communicating network and autonomous (solar panel and battery). CairNet surveys fugitive emissions of toxic gases or odourous gases around waste water treatment plants (WWTP), allowing you to react quickly to gas leaks. CairNet allows the wireless survey of hundreds of measurement points within a 200m radius of the wireless receiver for a much efficient installation cost. Cairpol systems can be used for fugitive emissions and odour measurement on industrial sites like waste water treatment plants (WWTP), landfill, compost plant, along a street or motorway, or in any sensitive area. • Air emissions testing for air regulations and compliance consulting

There are many businesses that release emissions into the air due to their daily processes. Because there are regulations in place to minimize pollution, these businesses need the help of air testing companies to make sure they are in compliance with the regulations. We perform air emissions testing to let your business know whether it falls within the set guidelines, as well as emissions monitoring services to ensure you remain within the regulations. This will keep the environment around your plant healthy and ensure you don’t accrue fines for violations.

    Air dedusting for clinker cooler

e control of clinker fines emissions after the heat exchanger, placed downstream of the clinker cooler is usually a problem for plant managers. The process is characterized by high material abrasiveness, high loads and variable flow rate in normal and maximum conditions.

The usual dedusting arrangement is achieved through a bag house which is typically associated with high maintenance costs and downtime in production due to frequent filter element replacements.

Carbon capture and storage (CCS) applications

Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) is an emerging method of reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions of power plants. In a process called ‘scrubbing’, the carbon dioxide emissions can be absorbed into chemical solvents consisting of amines or carbonates. Scrubbing is a well-established method of carbon capture, with virtually every commercial CO2 capture plant in operation using this process. In the process, the first step is the removal of impurities from the flue gas, such as hydrocarbons and oxides of both nitrogen and sulfur (NOx and SOx). Next the purified gas is passed through an absorption column filled with the chemical scrubbing solvent. The solvent reacts with the carbon dioxide and selectively absorbs it from the gas stream. When CO2-rich solvent is heated, the carbon dioxide is released as a nearly pure gas.
