Concerned about PAHs in Parking Lot Sealcoats?

There is growing concern - and regulations in the works - over the use of sealcoating products due to their high PAH content.  In the United States and elsewhere, most sealcoats are made from coal tar which can be toxic to aquatic life and threaten public water supplies from rain and runoff. Sitelab can be used to quickly check the concentrations of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and determine if it's made from coal tar or alternative petroleum based black top sealants.  Got samples?  We'll test them for free!  Contact Sitelab Corporation for details.

Air pollution control for the ethanol/biodesel industry

Renewable energy plants are expanding and developing at a significant rate in North America and throughout the world. In the United States, the Clean Air Act for reformulated gasoline (RFG) mandates a 2wt.% oxygen requirement, driving the demand for more production. Ethanol is the most viable additive because it is a clean-burning fuel produced from renewable, domestic biomass sources. However, the production of these fuels can result in unacceptable levels of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), carbon monoxide (CO), nitrogen oxides (NOx), particulate matter (PM) and hazardous air pollutants (HAPs), all regulated by environmental agencies.

  • Weather Monitoring Systems for industrial and utility sector

The weather can have a major impact on many industrial processes and operations, both from an operational efficiency and/or safety standpoint. For example, real-time information about ambient atmospheric conditions provides the necessary input data required to make the proper decisions during an industrial emergency involving any type of hazardous material. Depending on the plant type, size and age, the federal Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), as well as municipal and state environmental regulatory organizations, also require that a number of basic meteorological variables are measured and recorded on site to ensure compliance with environmental regulations.

  • Cloud software solutions for hospitals

You simply can`t afford a stinging environmental rebuke from the EPA or your state regulatory agency. Not only can fines be expensive, the reputational costs are inexcusable. You`ve invested far too much building trust in your community to take such a risk. The new proposed EPA regulations mean every facility that stores fuel must conform to a higher standard of due diligence. Failure to do so can mean heavy fines, increased liability, and deep brand damage. These new regulations augment and put teeth into the Energy Policy Act of 2005, which now expands to encompass all facilities that store fuel. Compliance requires monthly visual inspections and very specific record-keeping practices, best managed on a secure cloud solution. Titan cloud software keeps hospitals and related facilities on the high road, above the risks of regulatory non-compliance. It is the leading environmental compliance management software in the industry, currently managing over 60,000 USTs (Underground Storage Tanks), as well as thousands of ASTs (Above Ground Storage Tanks). Simply subscribe to Titan, and you`re well on your way to maintaining 100% compliance.

  • REPLACING WATER SOFTENER WITH GREEN SCALEWATCHER WATER CONDITIONER

Roper’s Restaurant, a cowboy themed restaurant in Albuquerque, New Mexico has replaced its water softener with the computerized, electronic, water-conditioner Scalewatcher from Scalewatcher North America. By installing Scalewatcher, the restaurant has avoided paying the $500 quoted for replacement media for its old water softener and also saved hundreds of dollars a year in salt and water thereby providing Roper’s with a short-term payback on the unit. Roper’s Restaurant, part of Outwest Eateries LLC dba, is located in a hard water area. This necessitated Bryce Chant, owner of Roper’s Restaurant using a water softener to prevent scale formation in the kitchen. “When I was given the price to repair our old water softener, I decided to install the Scalewatcher from Advance Plumbing”, said Bryce Chant of Roper’s Restaurant. We have had great success with it. Even though we had a water softener we still had hard water scale and a white ‘film’ in the dishwasher. Now with Scalewatcher that scale and ‘film’ has disappeared.” The average restaurant consumes 5,800 gallons of water daily, with 50% being used in the kitchen. If not properly treated, hard water can drain a restaurant’s bottom line due to the early renewal of capital equipment such as water heaters, boilers, coffee makers, dishwashers, steamers and other water-fed equipment. Hard water contains calcium carbonate that adheres to heating elements and the internal surfaces causing scale buildup that impairs efficiency. The limescale that deposits on the heating element will, if untreated, reduces efficiency, induces corrosion of the element and ultimately lead to appliance failure. In addition in restaurants, hard water also necessitates the use of additional detergents. In fact, for every additional grain of hard water, detergent use increases by between 2% and 4% per 1,000 gallons of water used. Many restaurants, like Roper’s use a water softener to reduce limescale. However, water softeners use copious amounts of both water and salt, which are expensive to buy and salt is also bulky to store. In addition, in many States now, including Southern California, municipalities and water departments are severely limiting, and in some cases prohibiting, the use of salt-regenerating water softeners due to concern regarding the increased levels of salt in ground water. The award-winning Scalewatcher system not only helps restaurants meet these regulations by minimizing salt usage but also saves money on salt purchase and has the additional benefit of removing scale from water-fed equipment. The environmentally friendly Scalewatcher provides a permanent solution to hard water problems without the need of chemicals, salt or maintenance. It works by producing a varying electronically applied force field, induced by a coil wrapped around the outside of the pipework, which keeps the minerals in suspension and thus prevents limescale forming. The water’s increased solubility enables it to dissolve existing scale, which is gradually washed away. “We are saving money each month because we do not have to purchase salt for the water softener and we are not dumping salt filled water down the drain because there is no brine process with Scalewatcher”, said Bryce Chant. “Living in New Mexico with our drought situation, I hated knowing all that water was being wasted. Scalewatcher is a truly ‘green’ technology that we are happy we have implemented”. Roper’s Restaurant has been so impressed with the Scalewatcher technology that the managers have bought units for their homes and have recommended it to family and friends. Scalewatcher models are based on continuous research and over 20 years experience and expertise as market leaders in electronic scale control with countless units sold worldwide. The patented Scalewatcher systems start at $248.00 USD and are capable of treating pipe sizes from one to 120 inches. All Scalewatcher systems come with a full performance guarantee and include free shipping throughout North America.

  • KRYSTAL KLEEN CAR WASHES REMOVES WATER SOFTENERS AFTER SCALEWATCHER INSTALLATION

Krystal Kleen Car Washes in Hoover, Alabama has removed the water softeners from its three self-service car washes following the installation of the computerized, electronic, water-conditioner Scalewatcher® from Scalewatcher North America. This has not only saved the company thousands of dollars a year in salt but also provided a short-term payback on the units. Krystal Kleen Car Washes is located in a hard water area, with Total Alkalinity of around 200mg/L. This necessitated Jim LeNoir, owner of Kyrstal Kleen Car Washes, using water softeners at his three premises to prevent scale formation and water spotting on the cars. “I decided to try Scalewatcher at Montevallo since this was the hardest water location of the three”, said Jim LeNoir. “I stored the water softener just in case it was needed. However, after a year the Scalewatcher was working just as efficiently as the water softener and the customers were happy. Next installation was at Calera with the same results and finally at Homewood which has a spot free rinse system.” All car washes, including conveyor or rollover; high-pressure touchless automatics and self-serve bays, use water as the primary means of removing the dirt, road grime, salt, and snow off the surface of the vehicle during the wash process. Water softeners are the mainstay in the wash industry, providing a means of removing the hard mineral deposits that prevent soap from working efficiently. Water softeners are utilized to overcome the calcium carbonate that is the primary component of water hardness. However, in many States now, including Southern California, municipalities and water departments are severely limiting, and in some cases prohibiting, the use of salt-regenerating water softeners due to concern regarding the increased levels of salt in ground water. The award-winning Scalewatcher system not only helps car washes meet these regulations by minimizing salt usage but also saves money on salt purchase and has the additional benefit of removing scale from lines and nozzles. “All the water softeners have now been removed freeing up much needed space and saving me money. Best of all I no longer have to haul salt pellets”, concluded Jim LeNoir. Scalewatcher models are based on continuous research and over 20 years experience and expertise as market leaders in electronic scale control with countless units sold worldwide. The patented Scalewatcher systems start at $248.00 USD and are capable of treating pipe sizes from one to 80 inches. All Scalewatcher systems come with a full performance guarantee and include free shipping throughout North America.
