  • Air scrubber wastewater solution

Air Scrubbers strip out contaminants from exhaust stacks typically by trickling a stream of salt solution through a bed of media to extract contaminants by putting them into solution. The salts found in these solutions are typically sulfates, chlorides, and carbonates. Air Scrubber wastewater tends to have high total dissolved solids (TDS) or salts. Air Scrubber Wastewater cannot be simply flushed down the drain. Many companies choose to avoid the headaches of labor-intensive wastewater treatment technologies such as chemical treatment or filtration and simply pay to haul the wastewater. This however, can become quite expensive.

  • Air control for wastewater treatment aeration

Aeration Process Introduction: Waste Water Treatment removes impurities and contaminants from a com¬munity`s sewage utilizing a number of different processes and a variety of equipment. One of the processes is the use of surface aerated basins that use aerobic micro-organisms to remove 80 to 90% of organic matter in waste water. Oxygen concentration in the water basins is a critical factor to promote the optimum micro-organism growth rate needed to treat the water in the shortest amount of time. As a result, large compressors are used to force air through hundreds of air diffusion filters at the bottom of the aeration basins, providing a constant 24/7 supply of oxygen to the micro-organisms in the water.

    Wastewater Treatment

Many industrial and pharmaceutical processes generate wastewater with volatile contaminants that increase the COD and BOD to a point where discharging to municipal wastewater is very costly or not an option. These contaminants can be removed from the water by distillation, substantially lowering the disposal cost, and, in many cases, the removed components can be further purified and reused in the process. MEGTEC offers the following solutions to remove the volatile contaminants and make wastewater suitable for discharge to most municipal wastewater treatment plants: Stripping columns using direct steam or a reboiler Distillation columns using indirect steam heat sources Our technologies have been applied to a range of processes including wastewater treatment from industries such as Pharmaceutical, Semiconductor, Chemical and Petrochemical.

    Waste to Energy

We can treat the air streams from waste management plants, MBT (Mechanical Biological Treatment) reception and composting areas, Waste Water Treatment Plants (WWTP), Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) Plants, gasification of waste, syngas, torrefaction, gas engines and biogas upgrading. In waste management plants and WWTP, we remove the odors that may be causing a nuisance to neighbors, with bioreactors using Biomass to degrade odorous components and where odors are particularly intractable or VOC emissions higher, thermal oxidizers to meet prescribed emission limits and odor levels. In RDF Plants, Syngas, Gasification, Gas Engine and Biogas Upgrading applications, we employ thermal oxidizers, particulate removal and DeNOX systems, for the control of VOC, NOx, CO and particulates to prescribed emission limits.

Gas monitoring instruments and systems for greenhouse gas emissions from soil

Measurement of greenhouse gases released from soil and water surface forms an important part of climate change study. Microbial activity in the soil or for instance the melting of permafrost releases greenhouse gases such as Methane and nitrous oxide N2O into the atmosphere. Measurement of the concentration for these gases inside an open-bottom soil chamber placed on the soil over time tells the emission rate (flux) per chamber footprint area.

Ambient air quality monitoring solutions for remote sensing of ship emissions

New regulation forces ships to lower the emissions of SO2. Ships travelling in SECA areas has to either run on low sulphur fuel, or install SO2 scrubbers. To measure the SO2 emissions from a ship is not an easy task. OPSIS provides the Port Authorities with a unique measurement principle where the emissions from the ship is measured remotely. Light is passing the emissions and by analyzing the light, concentrations of SO2 can be measured.

Monitoring of leaks in heat exchangers

    The Situation

A California refinery produces xylene for use as commercial product and a precursor for petrochemical manufacturing. A primary component to the production of xylene is the isolation and purification of the chemical from a complex mixture of petroleum hydrocarbons. Steam based heat exchangers are used to process the xylene. Inherent to the design and rough duty heat exchangers face during their operation, leaks can and do develop. When a heat exchanger leaks, xylene contaminates the steam and produces a number of problems ranging from loss of final product, contamination and fouling of steam transfer piping, and ultimately bio-fouling of cooling towers. Consistent and reliable monitoring for xylene or other petroleum hydrocarbons in cooling water or steam condensate can alleviate product loss and process equipment down time.

  • Airport Environmental Monitoring

Water pollution from airport run-off is increasingly coming under public and government scrutiny. As environmental regulations tighten, the ability to monitor for aviation fuel contamination from runway run-off has become essential.

Monitoring sites at airports can be extremely challenging often with no power or telephone lines available and with limited access for maintenance. Chelsea’s robust UviLux Hydrocarbon Sensor with its low power consumption and high accuracy is ideally suited for this application. Installed at various locations around the airport, deployed with it’s own integrated anti-biofouling system, utilising the GSM network, the monitoring sites send data to a secure ftp site, where any internet enabled device can access the data. In this way the systems act as any early warning system allowing any hydrocarbon discharge to be detected in real-time.

Optional environmental monitoring features include remote control to allow the user to turn equipment on and off, change the sample rate and detection range. There is also a facility to allow SMS text and email alarm notifications triggered by user-defined set-points together with customised web pages, data displays and automated data downloads via an ftp server.

Airport runoff can contain high concentrations of various pollutants, in particular polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), the environmental levels of which have to be monitored. An understanding of the magnitude of contamination due to airport runoff water is important for the effective management of airport infrastructure. Chelsea’s robust UviLux Hydrocarbon Sensor with its low power consumption and high accuracy is ideally suited to the airport environment.

  • Smoke generator device for large scale external exercises and tunnel testing

Making smoke in a very open environment or external environment can be a challenging! An oil-based smoke generator, such as a ViCount system, can produce dramatically more artificial smoke than multiple water based systems. This is due to the fact that the smoke ViCounts produce, being oil-based, does not evaporate in the same way and speed that water-based smoke does. The smoke from a ViCount smoke generator will travel for 1000`s of meters, compared to a typical water based smoke machine that may produce a smoke visible for 100 meters. Just one ViCount or Vulcan can replace 10 or more conventional water based smoke systems. ViCount`s have been used world wide for many tunnel smoke simulations, be it for RTA training / evacuation exercises or tunnel ventilation testing.
