    Aeration Process Introduction: Waste Water Treatment removes impurities and contaminants from a com¬munity`s sewage utilizing a number of different processes and a variety of equipment. One of the processes is the use of surface aerated basins that use aerobic micro-organisms to remove 80 to 90% of organic matter in waste water. Oxygen concentration in the water basins is a critical factor to promote the optimum micro-organism growth rate needed to treat the water in the shortest amount of time. As a result, large compressors are used to force air through hundreds of air diffusion filters at the bottom of the aeration basins, providing a constant 24/7 supply of oxygen to the micro-organisms in the water.

    The UviLux BOD Indicator enables in-situ, real-time, reporting of BOD within both natural water systems and water processing plants. The monitor detects fluorescent proteins that are inherent within sewage and slurry and provides an output in BOD equivalent units. The principle behind the measurement is the excitation of Tryptophan-like fluorescence within UV wavelength band, which has been shown to correlate with both BOD and bacterial contamination. With complete flexibility of deployment methodology, the UviLux BOD Indicator can be applied to both water supply and water recovery processing plants. For water supply processing, the UviLux BOD Indicator can be applied at the front end to the water intake to provide alarm of any contaminated water entering the plant.     Gas/Liquid and liquid/liquid mixing for air stripping applications

    The growing demand placed on the world’s water, in combination with more stringent water quality regulations, have placed unprecedented demands to provide safe, reliable and aesthetically pleasing drinking water. Air stripping is an effective way of removing volatile organic chemicals (VOCs) from contaminated water and is commonly used for this application. Air stripping systems mix air with a water supply with the goal to generate the largest possible air-water contact area so that VOCs and dissolved gases, such as radon and hydrogen sulfide, will move from the water to the air. In addition to removing VOCs, air stripping is primarily used for removing oxidizing contaminants such as iron and manganese, improving taste, or removing odor. Air stripping is an EPA Best Available Technology (BAT) for some VOCs including benzene, toluene, xylene, tri/tetrachloroethylene, trihalomethanes, vinyl chloride and many others.

  • Geosynthetic Lining for Highway and Civil Applications

    GCL can be used in highway and civil applications such as at airport de-icing facilities used to remove ice build up on the surfaces of planes. During the application process, glycol-based de-icing fluids can leak into local stormwater runoff, potentially causing pollution. CETCO GCLs were found compatible with de-icing fluid (glycol diluted 50/50 with water). GCLs can also be used to line roadway drainage swales for containment and prevent excessive percolation, thereby minimizing potential for groundwater contamination. Another example of using GCL in civil and highway applications is using the liner to contain acid rock and prevent runoff from entering the local water supply.
