    Mercury monitoring for mercury flux measurement

    The Tekran 2537 has been used in numerous published studies to measure the deposition or evasion of mercury from natural or contaminated surfaces (i.e. flux measurements). It is anticipated that many mercury flux measurements will be needed in the future to assess the impact of climate change on mercury cycling in the environment. There are two basic ways to do mercury flux measurements. First, the dynamic flux chamber method utilizes a custom enclosure, with controlled air flow, to measure the inlet and outlet concentration over a selected surface to determine the flux over time. Alternatively, the micrometeorological gradient method uses measured concentrations at two levels above a surface. The perfect tool for both flux measurement methods is the Tekran 1110 Two Port Sampler, so the Tekran 2537 can automatically switch between two distinct sampling points.     Determination of the mercury concentration in naphtha

    Introduction

    The mercury concentration in crude oil and petroleum products can vary in a wide range of less than 0.1 ppb to dozens ppm. Direct mercury determination in crude oil and petroleum products at the range above 5 ppb is covered by ASTM D7622-10(2015) "Standard test method for total mercury in crude oil using combustion and direct cold vapor atomic absorption method with Zeeman background correction". Mercury determination in naphtha and light petroleum products (condensate, gasoline and diesel fuel) at a level below 5 ppb is a vital problem for the oil refining and petrochemical industry. Complex organic matrix impedes conventional quantitative analysis for mercury.

    Mercury monitoring for measuring mercury content in hair

    Measurement of mercury content in hair is a convenient technique to estimate dietary exposure without having to handle tissues or bodily fluids. As the mercury present in hair is comprised of different mercury species, full speciation of the compounds is needed for complete understanding. Environment Canada published a technique where treating a basic digestion with Cd2+ in the presence of cysteine allowed analysis of inorganic mercury and total mercury using a Tekran 2600 System. Methyl mercury was then calculated by difference. Tekran has over 18 application notes available for Tekran 2600 users.
