Membranes Technology for Lab Filtration - Monitoring and Testing - Laboratory Equipment
Metalmembranes offers a unique laboratory filtration solution for a variety of filtration applications for instance bacterial concentration before analysis, sample preparation before (HPLC) analysis etc. The membranes have a pore sizes of 150 nm (Aluminum) and 15 nm (Titanium).
The Metalmembranes have the following features:
- Inert and sterializable Metalmembranes
- Fast filtration due to the high flux and the ability to withstand high pressures, up to 10 bar
- Non-fluorescent membrane, therefore, it is easy to label particles/bacteria with fluorescent markers and count them
- Easy of sealing and connection to a filter housing
- Flat membrane surface, it is easy for a camera to focus on the membrane surface
- Resistant against solvents
- Low protein binding

Concentrating microorganisms before detection
Due to their unique properties (e.g. high flux, rigidity, extremely low background fluorescence, and punchable inert material), Metalmembranes are ideal for rapid microbial detection in water. The figure below shows two protocols based on two different detection techniques (i.e. fluorescence and PCR, on the left and the right branch, respectively).
Our titanium membranes have a pore size small enough to retain viruses and have unprecedented high fluxes > 750 l/(m2 h bar), which is more than a factor of 10 higher compared to ceramic membranes with comparable pore size. Since the ceramic layer of the membrane is strongly connected to the metal, it is easy to sterilize the membrane and to connect it to a filtration module.
