Solutions for Water Treatment - Water and Wastewater - Water Treatment
The waste water treatment plants, either municipal or industrial, such as food, dairy, beverage, etc. are often singled out by local residents as the source of bad odours in the neighbourhood.
The PODZ products will help you minimize the impact of your process on the surrounding area (community relations, lawsuits, plant closure, bad press negative effect on real-estate values, etc.).
Depending on the industry and process, the sources of these odours are numerous: pre-treatment, activated sludge, equalization tanks, percolators, etc. According to experts, the activated sludge basins may be responsible for up to 75% of odours generated in the environment from a water treatment plant. Some WWTPs are challenged by mercaptans, amines and hydrogen sulfide (H₂S), the by-product of the commonly used anaerobic digestion which is perceived as a powerful, nauseating smell. H₂S does not dissolve well in wastewater and is thus released into the atmosphere, producing an offensive odor.
If any of these treatment plants are covered ponds, especially in new constructions, most are not equipped with emission and treatment systems. Coverage of such tanks by the PODZ Horizon and the HexaPODZ can reduce odour emissions by over 95%.
In addition, the majority of N₂O, a very harmful Greenhouse Gas (a ton of N₂O = 281 tons of CO₂) may be emitted by settling tanks, activated sludge basins and clarifiers. The treatment of it makes an appreciable gain in terms of carbon credits where applicable.
