Wastewater treatment for the sea- and inland ports/terminals - Water and Wastewater
Facing the increasing oversea trade, the environmental protection of the oceans is becoming increasingly important. The motto of the International Maritime Organization of the United Nations in London (IMO), “Safe, secure and efficient shipping on clean oceans” confronts the shipping industry and in particular the terminal ports with growing challenges. The stored fuels, raw materials and resources of a country must not pollute the harbor water with their emissions in case of rain. Produced liquid ship waste contains oil emulsion and saline bilge water among others.
Within the port management and the loading terminals AWAS offers cost-saving and efficient solutions for:
- Surface water management in the port/terminal
- Bilge water treatment
- Oil tanker and ship cleaning wash-water circuit
AWAS developed special new process technologies that clean the surface and rain water, contaminated by the stored materials as coal, steel, oil and other matters for the ports of Yuzhny/Ukraine on the Black Sea and Khabarovsk (oil transshipment point Umur inland port). In Tuapse/RUS, at the Black Sea, vessel and tanker cleaning wastewater is treated up to a quality with a value of less than 0.45mg hydrocarbons / l water which could be discharged back into the Black Sea.
Ballast water recycling
Each year approximately 12 billion tons of ballast waste water are transported around the world. Inadequate ballast water management leads to a global exchange of animal and herbal organisms. This exchange of organisms in foreign habitats results in a severe disturbance of ecosystems which will sooner or later affect the economy as well.
AWAS waste water treatment systems are based on biological and physical principles, which can dispense with an additional chemical load on the ballast water.
Bilge water recycling
At the bottom of a ship, at the so-called bilge, liquids such as condensate, leaking oil, cooling water, lubricants, motor oils, cleaning liquids etc. are being collected.
The legal basis of the IMO resolution MEPC. 107 (49) for the discharge of bilge water at sea allows a maximum of 15 ppm hydrocarbons. In order to keep the pollution within the level allowed, high-performance systems are required.
The AWAS separator system, that proved itself in various sectors of the oil industry, is optimally suited for the cleaning of bilge water. Through a space-saving design the systems are ideal for the use in the maritime environment protection.
