There are two kinds of upholstery steam cleaners: steam cleaners and carpet cleaners. Steam cleaners are powerful hard surface cleaners that can also be used to spot clean mats and carpets. Carpet cleaning machines are modestly powered cleaning machines that are used mainly for cleaning carpets and upholstery.

Carpet cleaning machines are more popular than steam cleaners as upholstery steam cleaners. Still, it is better to learn more about the use of steam cleaners in upholstery cleaning first.

Steam Cleaners
The main use of steam cleaners is not carpet and upholstery cleaning. These are used for cleaning floors and other hard surfaces. These machines clean with their high temperature output, which can range up to 386°F, depending upon the model.

Tips for Use
These are also used as upholstery steam cleaners, only for spot cleaning carpets and upholstery. Care must be taken when using rug steam cleaners because the high temperature output of the machine can damage the soft outer surfaces of carpets and upholstery.

Many experienced cleaning workers believe that it is worth taking the risk of surface damage. Rug steam cleaners offer some advantages that other cleaning machines with less output power cannot offer. The cleaning process is quicker and more efficient. The cleaned surfaces dry up lightning quick. In addition, there is no need to use any artificial cleaning agents.

Yet, it should be noted that the soft surfaces of seat upholstery and carpets should not be exposed to the output of the machine for too long. After all, a muddied or dust-filled upholstery piece is certainly better than a torn or damaged upholstery piece.

Carpet-Cleaning Equipment
As already mentioned, these are the most widely used upholstery steam cleaners. Ordinary carpet cleaning machines do not provide heated output. It is important to use heated carpet cleaners as upholstery cleaners.

Special Upholstery Wand
When using carpet cleaning machines as upholstery steam cleaners, the first thing to note is to select the machines that have specialized upholstery wand. The default wand that comes associated with carpet cleaning equipment is usually good for cleaning mats and carpets, but not that efficient for cleaning seat upholstery.

Therefore, it is important to have separate upholstery wand along with rug cleaners. These are stronger and more suitable for cleaning upholstery than ordinary wands. Needless to say, special upholstery wands make the cleaning process faster and more efficient.

Multiple Heating Elements
It has been already mentioned that heated carpet cleaners are the best choice for upholstery cleaning. Even among the heated machines, there is a sophisticated line of equipment. These machines are equipped with multiple heating elements.

The advantage of carpet-cleaning machines with multiple heating elements is that these machines can reach the maximum output temperature quickly. Such upholstery cleaners only take less than half the time taken by ordinary machines.

Low-Flow Machines
Another thing to check when using carpet cleaners as upholstery steam cleaners is that whether the machine has low-flow technology or not. Machines having low-flow technology insure that the cleaned upholstery pieces dry up quickly.

It is common knowledge that wet surfaces attract more dirt immediately. By making the surfaces dry up quickly, these machines help the upholstery remain clean for a long time.
