A Study of Undrained Shear Strength Using Various Vanes

A field study of the undrained shear strength of a sensitive clay deposit was carried out by means of various vane configurations. Rectangular, rhomboidal, triangular, and elliptic vane blades were used. The assumption of isotropy of the undrained shear strength indicates that a uniform shear stress distribution gives a better fit to the observed response than a triangular distribution
