An aerial comparison of a multiple lake system, that reveals how groundwater recharge occurs in the basalt geology of the Columbia Basin in just two years time
Case Study - Remedial Investigation - Former Vickers Refinery, Potwin, Kansas
MWH carried out this comprehensive investigation in order to characterize soil, geology, surface water, and groundwater and identify possible source areas and potential contaminant migration pathways. Additionally, this investigation evaluated hydraulic pathways and the interaction between aquifers, evaluate the performance of the recovery wells, and evaluate groundwater and surface water interaction in Brush Creek in the segment that flows through the former refinery site. Watch in the images for MWH`s creative...
Natural background levels for chemicals in Icelandic aquifers
Information about natural background levels (NBLs) of chemicals in source waters allows water utilities to identify trends in drinking water contamination. We estimate NBLs for chemicals in source waters for Icelandic water utilities at both national levels with all data pooled, and according to geological regime. NBLs were derived by collecting samples from 79 aquifers considered largely unimpacted by human activities. The aquifers were categorized into four geological settings that are representative of the...
North LA Case Study (C3 Technology)
The project site is an industrial facility located in the foothills of northern Los Angeles, California. The facility utilized chlorinated solvents in operations. Based on soil borings, site geology consisted of unconsolidated gravely sands, sand, silty sand, sandy silt, and silt from ground surface to more than 200 feet below ground surface (bgs). Groundwater was encountered at the site at approximately 65 ft bgs. Geology:Gravely Sands, Sand, Silty Sand, Sandy Silt, Silt, Groundwater
Mississauga Case Study (In Situ Gas Thermal Remediation (GTR™))
In Situ Thermal Desorption in conjunction with soil vapor extraction was used to remove volatile organic compounds which contaminated the groundwater and saturated soil areas of a former metal fabricating facility in Ontario, Canada. The site had VOCs detected above the Canadian water standard in various monitoring well locations. The remediation goal was achieved in 84 days and saw a 98% reduction in groundwater contaminants. Geology: Silty Clay, Silt
Loveland Case Study (In SItu Gas Thermal Remediation (GTR™))
The Loveland Sinclair gasoline station was selected for In-Situ Thermal Remediation (ISTR) using Gas Thermal Remediation (GTR) technologies. The GTR remediation system was designed to target a treatment area of approximately 14,000 square feet and includes a treatment volume of approximately 3,100 cubic yards. Vadose and saturated zone impacts, including a thin layer of light non-aqueous phase liquid (LNAPL) will be treated to drinking water standards. Geology: Clay, Silty Clay
