This year’s NFPA, National Fire Protection Association exhibition was held in a very wet and windy Boston.

Unseasonably cool, the city’s main exhibition centre held the 2017 NFPA conference and discussion forums with a busy exhibition showcasing the latest technologies within the fire protection remit.

Held over four days, the event provides a platform for professionals within the industry to discuss the current code, but also to raise discussion points about future regulations and developments which potentially may impact future codes.

The NFPA is a global, nonprofit organization, founded in 1896, devoted to eliminating death, injury, property and economic loss due to fire, electrical and related hazards. The association delivers information and knowledge through more than 300 consensus codes and standards, research, training, education, outreach and advocacy; and by partnering with others who share an interest in furthering the NFPA mission.

The conference included a packed agenda of keynote speakers delivering sessions on subjects including, integration of IoT in building management systems,  wildfire prevention, growhouse safety issues, fire suppression developments, risk assessment complexities and a whole range of other topics relating to fire protection.

There were specific times when the attendees were encouraged to visit the exhibition which saw more than 150 vendors showcasing their latest products and services which assist the industry. Analox’s gas detection solutions were amongst other technologies including flame distinguishing gel, Novec 1230, which doesn’t leave any damage, fire fighter clothing, helmets and boots, air compressors, fire protection valves, pump controllers and test meters, and a range of sprinklers.

Alongside the companies promoting new products and technologies the show also gave attendees the chance to speak to important services within the industry such as United Association of International Training fund, American Society for Healthcare Engineering and UL.

Analox attended to demonstrate the recently launched  Ax60+ the ideal solution for gas detection in buildings which store and use CO2. The Ax60+ detects for high levels of CO2, with added capability of an additional O2 sensor if enriched oxygen or oxygen depletion is also an issue.

Betsey explaining the ACG+ to firefighters from Mexico

A key feature of Analox’s Ax60+ gas detector is that alarm set-points can be fully customized by the user to comply with specific jurisdictional requirements set by individual states in the US and adhere to regulations implemented across Europe and the rest of the world. Essentially, the unit can be programmed to alarm at whatever limit you need it to, in order to comply with outlined guidelines and regulations across all codes and bodies.

The team were also demonstrating Analox’s ACG+, a compressed breathing air monitor, which can be installed as a constant monitor or used as a portable device, easily carried from site to site to audit individual compressors.

Analox’s ACG+ tests the quality of compressed breathing air across O2, CO2, CO, and traces of H2O and VOC’s ensuring that the air delivered to the firefighter’s breathing apparatus is clean and safe at all times.

NFPA provided a great platform to discuss current and more importantly changing codes, something which Analox has taken on board as a company, resulting in the customizable alarm set-points on the Ax60+.

Analox support these extremely important assocoations, which provide expert guidelines and regulations that can be implemented by professionals in order to keep people safe in their everyday lives and hope to return to NFPA exhibition in the future.
