Analysis of alternative fuels
The use of alternative fuels in the cement and building materials industries is becoming increasingly important. Alternative fuels enable cement manufacturers to control production costs and improve environmental performance – two very significant benefits for one of the world’s most energy intensive industries. If international targets for the reduction of CO2 emissions are to be met, then the wider use of alternative fuels in the future is certain. In most parts of the world the incineration of alternative fuels and the resultant emissions are tightly controlled by legislation. This article looks at the use of an energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence (XRF) spectrometer as a means of ensuring compliance with environmental regulations.
