Applications of nanotechnology in oil and gas

This paper deals with two important aspects of nanotechnology that are of potential interest to the oil and gas industry. In the first part, a summary is presented on recently established nanotechnology initiatives in various countries around the world. Program funding levels and core activities will be compared to provide a basis for assessing the level of development of the various branches of nanotechnology. The second part of the paper looks at the applications of electrodeposited nanostructured coatings, as a branch of nanotechnology, in oil and gas industry.

Keywords: nanostructured coatings, corrosion, catalytic properties, mechanical properties, oil and gas industry, potential applications, program funding, nanotechnology, electrodeposition, nanostructures
