The Property
Located in the heart of Sydney’s CBD, the 29 story, 470,000 square foot tower provides spectacular views of Sydney Harbor. 1 Bligh Street is an iconic feature of the Sydney skyline, combining remarkable architecture with best practice sustainability, such as the double skin facade and a naturally ventilated, full height atrium.

The Aquacell Blackwater Solution
The state of New South Wales awarded the first combined private network and retailer’s water recycling license to Aquacell for the 1 Bligh Street development, making it Sydney’s first high-rise commercial office tower to incorporate blackwater recycling technology.

  • Blackwater plant recycles and saves 26,000 gallons of drinking water a day, over 6 million gallons per year
  • Wastewater is mined from the nearby sewer main to supplement the building’s blackwater flow and meet the building’s non-potable water demand (see schematic at right)
  • Wastewater is treated to the highest recycled water standards approved by NSW Health
  • Recycled water is distributed around the building for non-drinking purposes, with 20,000 gallons used for cooling tower make-up and 6,000 gallons for toilet and urinal flushing
  • Aquacell’s turn-key approach included regulatory approvals, design, project management, installation, commissioning and an operations and service contract
