Asbestos Contaminated Soil Remediation
Client: Hawkshead Properties Ltd
Challenge: Removal of asbestos contaminated demolition material adjacent to residential housing and canal. Monitor air borne dust particulates and swab cleaned surfaces to validate target levels. Backfill excavations and make safes vertical drops.
Applied technology: Excavation and removal of material to a licensed landfill site. Ongoing
Remediation criteria: Remove all asbestos contaminated material.
Validation: Ongoing monitoring by consultants.
Soilutions managed all remediation activities, including site sampling and testing, liaison with client and SEPA. The Clients remit was to remove all asbestos contaminated demolition material within concrete pits and on the surface of concrete slabs to make the site safe for future planned developmental activities.
Site constraints included an adjacent canal and residential homes. A monitoring regime together with dust suppression was initiated to prevent asbestos fibres from becoming air borne.
Removal of 3,000 tonnes of asbestos contaminated demolition material and the placing of inert material to make safe vertical drops and excavations.
