At Jeff’s Auto Body & Recycling Center Inc., old things become new again. Since 1978, Jeff Kurtz and his family have been restoring and fixing cars, as well as offering a variety of recycling services to Paxinos, PA, and surrounding communities.
PROBLEM: In 2011, Kurtz realized that he could do more to clean up the wastewater run-off from the auto repair and service facility. In addition to offering full-service repairs and restorations, Jeff’s has a dedicated auto-painting booth, and drains and recycles more than 1,000 gallons a month of motor oil, transmission fluids and other liquids from vehicles. All of these activities left oily patches and puddles on the ground that would be cleaned up with oil-absorbing rags that would then be discarded. Eventually, a floor cleaning would be required, and that wastewater went into the public sewer system. Kurtz wanted a less-expensive, more efficient solution that resulted in less waste and cleaner discharge.
