Beiersdorf - Wastewater treatment in the cosmetics industry - Case Study
The NIVEA brand produced by Beiersdorf is very popular in Brazil. Brazil is one of the largest markets in the world for cosmetics. For this reason, Beiersdorf built a production facility in Itatiba, approximately 1½ hours' drive from São Paulo, in 2002.
EnviroChemie was awarded the contract to build the new wastewater treatment plant. The concept has a modular structure, i.e. the plant can be adapted to growing wastewater volumes as production expands.
Fats and oils from the production are separated from the wastewater in a grease separator. After intermediate storage, the wastewater is biologically treated in a Biomar® plant with internal sedimenter. The quality of the discharged water significantly exceeds regulatory requirements. After UV-disinfection, it is used as recycled water for irrigation purposes.
- Process: Biomar® biological wastewater treatment
- 120 m³/day industrial wastewater
- 80 m³/day sanitary wastewater
