BHS selected to build multi-stream system at new facility in Austin
AUSTIN, TX -- Balcones Resources has chosen Bulk Handling Systems (BHS) to manufacture and install a custom-designed 25 ton per hour Multi-Stream processing system for its new Material Recovery Facility (MRF) in Austin, Texas. The company broke ground on its new 10-acre corporate campus and MRF on August 3rd.
Balcones was recently awarded a 20-year contract with the City of Austin to process the majority of the city’s Single Stream recyclables from 177,170 residential accounts. Balcones currently operates a commercial recycling facility in Austin. The MRF will be capable of processing either residential or commercial material through the system and is scheduled to begin running in the fall of 2012.
The plant will feature the latest in patented screening, and optical and controls technology, ensuring Balcones Resources recovers pure products at a recovery rate in excess of 95%. The highly-automated system will process residential recyclables with minimal labor at extremely high production rates. The facility will recover cardboard, newsprint, mixed paper, PET, HDPE, mixed plastics, mixed office paper, glass and metals.
BHS was chosen for its high-quality construction, customer service and support, and expertise in the recycling industry, says Kerry Getter, CEO of Balcones Resources.
“We’re excited to be breaking ground on this $23 million project,” Getter says. “When completed, it will be the largest capital investment by a privately held recycling company in the State of Texas, and one of the most significant in the United States in the coming year. Balcones is particularly pleased to be a City of Austin zero waste partner. This facility is state of the art and being built with the future in mind.”
