PS Bangor City - Case Study
Landustrie supplied two Landy Archimedes screw pumps for doubling the capacity of water storage in the underground storm water bassin at Pumping Station Luke`s Point (Northern Ireland Water). With a capacity of 1,200 l/sec these screw pumps enable the station to deal with heavy rainfall and reduce flooding. Both screws dimension 1950 mm diameter and 6 meter long. Special feature is the use of eco-friendly stainless steel lower bearings which allow for 3-dimensional self-alignment.
Anti-fouling graphene oxide based nanocomposites membrane for oil-water emulsion separation
Anti-fouling copper hydroxide nanowires (CHNs)-graphene oxide (GO) nanocomposites membrane was fabricated by a vacuum-assisted filtration self-assembly process. CHNs were covered on the surface and inserted into the interlayers of the GO nanosheets to form the rough surface and nanostructure channels. The membrane with water contact angles (CAs) of 53° and oil CAs of 155° exhibited superior stability, hydrophilicity, underwater superoleophobicity and ultralow oil adhesion, and hence it could separate the oil-water...
Simultaneous organic matter removal and nitrification of an inert self-supporting immersed media to ...
A pilot study was performed to evaluate the potential of an inert self-supported immersed fixed film media to upgrade aerated lagoons. Simultaneous organic matter removal and nitrification was assessed under different loading rates and temperatures (near 0 °C) using 12 laboratory-scale reactors operated in parallel. Test results showed that both the temperature and the load have an influence on organic matter effluent concentrations. Effluent quality seemed related to the observed biofilm thickness. Thicker...
Velocity-based analysis of sediment incipient deposition in rigid boundary open channels
Drainage systems must be designed in a way to minimize undesired problems such as decrease in hydraulic capacity of the channel, blockage and transport of pollutants due to deposition of sediment. Channel design considering self-cleansing criteria are used to solve the sedimentation problem. Incipient deposition is one of the non-deposition self-cleansing design criteria that can be used as a conservative method for channel design. Experimental studies have been carried out in five different cross-section channels,...
Water safety planning for small water supply systems: the framework and control measures
A water safety plan (WSP) is a preventive comprehensive risk assessment and management approach to ensuring the safety of a drinking water supply from source to tap for public health protection. The concept was introduced in the last decade in international guidance documents and has been applied widely across a varied range of water supply systems, particularly, the public water utilities and to a lesser extent towards small systems. Mainstreaming water safety intervention for small systems however, would ensure...
