At the Oxbow Elk Creek Mine in Somerset, Colorado, methane was free vented from the mine for more than 100 years with an estimated $1 million per month of potential fuel being released into the atmosphere. Through a partnership with Aspen Skiing Company, the methane that was once vented into the atmosphere is now being used to generate electricity that is fed into the grid.
