Excavation and trenching waste from the utilities industries.
Powerscreen Commander 1400 Feeder, Powerscreen Aggwash, DUO Mobile Water Treatment System (inc. centrifuge, clarified water tank, sludge tank and low-level thickener.
Complete Utilities required a washing and water treatment solution for processing their utilities spoil which, once processed, is used to backfill. The site of the installation presented both height and space restrictions due to the area available.
The installation uses a Commander 1400 to feed the waste, which is generated through the customer's excavation and trenching services, to the Powerscreen Aggwash. The Aggwash provides multiple processing functions on a single chassis making it perfect considering the space restrictions onsite. The Aggwash removes ferrous metals from the feed material, it also rinses and screens the material as well as scrubbing it using the log washer incorporated on the Aggwash. Complete Utilities will be running the Aggwash at 50-60 tph to produce four grades of aggregate and a single grade of sand.
The slurry from the washing process is pumped to DUO's mobile water treatment solution which perfectly complements the Aggwash, eliminating the need for silt and water to be dispatched to a lagoon. The system, which is based on a centrifuge, is of compact size relative to its production levels which was a necessity in the design of the installation due to space restrictions on-site. This closed circuit system produces a very manageable end product, the low moisture content of which is vital to Complete Utilities in ensuring it is workable for blending as clean soils as well as any surplus being transportable to, and will be accepted by, landfill and tipping sites.
The water treatment plant is supported by a sludge tank, clarified water tank and a thickener system. Due to the height restrictions on-site a low level thickener was selected, the size of the site imposed its own restrictions which required careful planning from DUO to minimize the footprint of the installation.
Complete Utilities are now operating as per the initial brief they supplied to DUO prior to the deal being agreed.
They are able run the plant to process their feed material, achieving the high standard of product that is fundamental to their business as both the producers and end-users of the washed aggregates.
Complete Utilities are looking to replicate the plant at additional locations in the future; evidencing the success of the Aggwash in washing the material and DUO Mobile Water Treatment Plant in processing the slurry.
Commenting on the project, Complete Utilities Managing Director, Steve Chaplin said 'Working with DUO is a very pleasant experience, they do what they say and I'd recommend it to anybody.'
