Executive Summary:
The project is to introduce new and innovative technology called Sterimelt. It is patented technology and the first of its kind for healthcare recycling applications.

Purpose of Project / Business Challenge:
The Sterimelt machine was developed a few years ago and was loosely based on TCG’s successful polystyrene recycling machine, Styromelt.

Benefits / Business Case:
The Sterimelt produces single stream polypropylene blocks that have commercial value and acceptable melt flow index for use in new products.

Closing the Loop:
TCG are also engaging with the South Wales Universities to explore creating added value from the processed blocks. A feasibility study is currently taking place that will take some months to complete and every effort is being made to give best possible results and returns going forward.

The Bevan Commission:
The Bevan Commission is a group of international experts giving advice to the Minister for Health and Social Services to help ensure that increasingly Wales can draw on best practice from across the world while remaining true to the principles of the NHS as established by Aneurin Bevan.

Recent Awards:
In February 2017 TCG were announced as winners of the Success Through Innovation Category at the prestigious South Wales Business Awards held in Cardiff.

In May 2017 at the Imperial College in London, TCG’s NHS partner, Anuerin Bevan University Health Board won the Innovation category at the prestigious UK wide NHS Sustainability Awards. TCG and Aneurin Bevan were also named as finalists for the Lord Carter Innovation Award, presented at the NHS Innovation Exhibition and Conference held at Olympia in London, May 2017.All documents, certificates and test reports relating to this case study are available on request.
