As a major pharmaceutical company, Merck has operations all over the globe. E2 was initially retained to assist with strategic planning for an EMIS solution encompassing compliance management, employee health and safety, enterprise reporting, hazard communication, management systems, training, waste management & conservation. The EMIS strategic planning activities resulted in the identification of two initial high priority EHS topics to address with an EMIS solution: EHS performance metric reporting and EHS event (incident) management.

Merck retained E2 to further assist with identifying and implementing a more efficient solution. E2 conducted a solution design to define and document the system requirements for both metric and event management. This was followed by a COTS review to assess known solution providers in the marketplace. After a series of vendor demonstrations and evaluations, the Entropy Solution by BSI was chosen by Merck as their software solution provider.

Working with Entropy and the Merck team, E2 helped implement solutions for both the metrics and incident modules including CAPA tracking. The project included:

  • The facilitation of requirements definition
  • Global process harmonization
  • Identification of global reporting needs
  • System integration requirements definition
  • Development of system configuration specifications
  • Rollout planning
  • Data migration from a legacy system
