LOG_aLevel® at River Vienne, France

General Acoustics’ French distributor, Mesuris recently installed a LOG_aLevel® gauge station at the River Vienne for the company Ecologia. The exact location of the station is Moulin de Chitré, south from the city of Châtellerault. The company Mesuris collects the data. The aim is to measure variations of water level during summer for providing a navigability study for small tourist boats. The LOG_aLevel® gauge station will remain permanently on this site to measure long term variation of River Vienne water levels over several years.

The maintenance free system requires no operator on site and is equipped to measure a range of up to 8 m. Data are delivered remotely via a bi-directional radio link that allows to visualise the data and control the station settings. Besides working with AC energy supply the station is equipped with a battery backup.

The data are remotely collected every hour on PC located nearby the station. Measured data are displayed on screen. Data are automatically transferred over ADSL every week onto Mesuris FTPsite for post-processing.

Criteria for selecting LOG_aLevel® were its robustness, maintenance freedom and superior resolution. This allows that rapid water level variations are clearly displayed, e.g. after a storm, as well as minimal variations are also detected.
