What’s the appetite for a sustainability strategy in the current market?

Sustainability has risen up the business agenda, as concern over climate change and increasingly tight government regulation take effect. In times of rude economic health, many major companies were announcing conversion to the green cause, with carbon-cutting initiatives. But will the appetite of organisations for environmental improvements fade in less favourable economic conditions? Is there evidence that this is already happening?

Many experts argue that being green can actually help companies to save money. Is that the case, and is this message getting through? And what will happen to the environmental agenda in 2009?
