Chopper Pumps: Pumping and mixing of fat from poultry processing plant

Fats were seprated from the effluent at a poultry processing plant and stored in a reception pit. From there, they had to be pumped to a tanker truck and transported to a biogas plant every time the pit was full.

The pit was 3 m deep with a diameter of 3 meters, total volume 22 m³.

The fats formed a thick top layer and needed to be mixed efficiently before they could be pumped into the tanker.

A powerful 18,5 kW Landia long shaft chopper pump with bottom flushing system was installed. The pump was mixing the tank contents in 30-60 minutes prior to pumping into the tanker truck.
