St. Helen’s is an independent girls’ day school of more than 1,100 students aged from 3 to 18. Located in Northwood, St Helen’s spans 23 acres, with over 20 utilised buildings. Energy and water management and efficiency is important to St Helen’s in order to keep all overheads to a minimum, ensuring value for money to their pupils and families.
As provider of energy management services to over 300 ISBA schools, CMR Consultants was contacted to review St Helen’s water supply charges and consumption.
By simply using a year’s supply of monthly invoices from the school, CMR Consultants water consultancy team was able to carry out a FREE desktop assessment, to assess consumption, current and historic charges, suitability of tariffs and efficiency measures.
A site survey was then carried out to investigate our findings from the desktop audit. This included checking the accuracy and details of 11 water meters across the site and ensuring the water consumption was an accurate representation of the meter readings and met with anticipated usage across the buildings supplied.
These findings were confirmed in a client report which was presented in person to the school. This allowed our consultants to discuss and agree the best way to carry out the proposed measures and to implement the cost saving recommendations that were identified.
Although our investigations found the school to be very efficient and the majority of charges to be correct, our expertise and assessment procedure still detected ongoing savings to date of £600 per annum since 2010.
During the desktop analysis CMR Consultants also identified historic incorrect tariff charges dating back to 2006. CMR Consultants resolved this charging error on behalf of St Helen’s, resulting in a refund of £1780.
CMR Consultants has also offered advice on water recycling projects at various points around the school grounds to assist with the school’s drive towards reduced costs and improved environmental credentials going
“CMR Consultants has helped us gain a greater understanding of our water usage across our site. Many organisations do not realise that savings can be made on water - it’s the forgotten utility. We simply gave the consultants a copy of our bills and access to our site and they did the rest. ” Bob Ukiah, Resources Director
