With “sustainability” no longer just the domain of economic viability for business, a new order has emerged. With the advent of more rigorous voluntary reporting of a company’s sustainability efforts, companies have realized that gathering, collating, and assimilating the necessary
information requires the assistance of a number of different business enterprises within the organization. To effectively manage these new corporate responsibilities, some companies have created a new “C-Suite” position, that of the Chief Sustainability Officer (CSO). With no
established guidelines for this position, the question is: who are these newly-minted CSOs and what skills must they possess?
